VIDEO: Deputies Seek Public's Help In 30-Year-Old Cold Case Murder

The Saline County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in solving a 30-year-old cold case murder.
In the early morning hours of May 31st, 1981, deputies were dispatched to a remote area southeast of the City of New Cambria in regard to a medical emergency. They found 30-year-old William "Billy" Farmer slumped over in the front seat of a 1971 Chevrolet Caprice 2 door, black vinyl over blue car. Farmer was deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
Deputy Jim Hughes says that new information on the 1981 case has surfaced. In a media conference on Thursday with Farmer's wife and two sons, Hughes said that over the years there have been several "people of interest" identified. Some of those people are now deceased, and Hughes believes that has prompted new information from people who may have been afraid to previously come forward.
Farmer's wife Brenda, who has now remarried, said it's way past time to solve this case. She said " I have children and grandchildren who need closure".
Farmer's sons Bronson and Brady say that they are encouraged by the new interest in the case.
Hughes said "with the right information, this 30-year-old case can be solved". He added "there are people who know what happened", and went on to say "those people can safely come forward".
Anyone with any information about the 1981 murder of William "Billy" Farmer is asked to contact the Saline County Sheriff's Office at 785-826-6500, or Crime Stoppers at 785-825-TIPS (8477) . You could receive a cash reward of up to $1,000 and can remain anonymous.

Yeah! It's about time! Let's look at some other cases as well, Nellie Hubbrad, "The Legs Lady, Ms. Cyphers, Mildred Hawkes to name a few!

You can add the Steve Bettles to that list also. The problem has not changed over the years. When these murders happen the Sheriff's Department lets out very little or any information to the public. People notice things and if more information was presented to the public someone just might remember seeing or hearing something that might solve these cases. Now as in this case 30 years later they are asking for public help. If anyone saw something they forgotten it in 30 years. So citizenjane we all will probably have to wait another 30 years for them to seek more information on the cases both of us mentioned.

So you want our help? Find but we want to know what information you have gotten for you to reopen the case. The sheriff's department plays games with the public constantly withholding information that might solve cases. In this instance 30 years later is not going to hinder any investigation by releasing the facts.

Sometimes cases do not get resolved but most of the time is because law enforcement lacks the tools and are always tight lipped. The public generally see's more than anyone might imagine. Saying that people are deceased and no longer can hurt anyone that tells me there is evidence or knowledge who might have done this. I have to agree put out the information you have to the public and stop playing games as has been previously stated if you truly want to resolve this case.

t-bone there are two theories to the Tom Young case. First is he was involved with the underworld in running guns and/or drugs and a hit was put out on him. The other is that someone very infullential in Salina that he crossed had the killing done. Either way these stories have been going on for years and most of the people who were around him moved on shortly after he was shoot mafia style.
