A very visible project in South Salina is winding down. The water tower at the corner of Belmont and Magnolia has been cleaned up, with a fresh coat of paint and a bright new logo.

The Salina Area Chamber Of Commerce teamed up with the City of Salina on the project. The tower, which previously had the word "SALINA" on it in large black letters now displays a new look logo. The "Visit Salina.org. Right place. Right reason. Right now." logo is displayed on the west side of the tower.

Salina Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dennis Lauver tells KSAL News the chamber helped fund the project. He says it is an invitation for visitors to visit the city on-line.

Lauver says this particular tower, which was ready for scheduled maintenance, was selected because of its location near the Central Mall and the busy South 9th Street Corridor. Another water tower near Interstate 70 in North Salina also has the same design.

Lauver adds that depending on their location, the chamber would consider doing the same with other water towers.

The water tower does look great, and not being a synic but if the Central Mall doesn't do something about all the vacant stores in it, it won't be a reason to come to Salina----it's pathetic. It'll look like the old mall at the rate it's going.

Figures Lauver was involved with the tank being painted with a logo on one side. Goes right along with the half-a** job he does down at the chamber in bringing good paying jobs to Salina.

Maybe Lauver ought to add his picture and phone number to the one out by the interstate with the caption LOOKING FOR ANOTHER JOB.

I wonder how much this project cost compared to simply cleaning up the existing work.
