Deputies say the motorcycle hit the truck in the driver's side door, injuring the rider.

A motorcycle rider is flown to a Wichita hospital after a two vehicle crash on Friday.

According to Sheriff Glen Kochanowski, 30-year-old Troy J. Goff was riding a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Magnolia Road Friday around 5:30pm.

The Sheriff says the driver of a 1999 Dodge Dakota truck was stopped at the intersection of Holmes and Magnolia - and then proceeded northbound into the path of the bike.

Deputies say the motorcycle hit the truck in the driver's side door, injuring the rider.

Goff was flown from the scene of the accident by a Life Star helicopter to Wesley Medical Center. Goff, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a broken sternum, a shattered femur and is currently in ICU with a critical head injury.

The driver of the truck, 17-year-old Charles R. Smith of Salina, suffered minor injuries to his hand. The incident remains under investigation.

Under investigation??? Looks like a simple open and shut case of an accident. But then again they got to spend their time on something they sure do not spend it on crime.

Sad. I won't even bother with my usual comments about loud pipes, wearing a helmet and obeying the speed limit. I hope this young man recovers.

I agree, I hope and pray this young man makes a full, speedy recovery. And, I also agree, UNDER INVESTIGATION??!! How bout ticketing the 17yr old with inattentive driving for starters!! What's to investigate, the kid pulled out in front of oncoming traffic!!

So it's the kids fault? How many times have any of you went ahead and pulled out in front of someone because you saw that they had their blinker on?

Rabid_Moth.... Where do you see in this article there was a turn signal, and also there are time when people lie about what happened so they do not get in trouble. So unless you were there and saw what happened no one really knows for sure.

I do hope that Troy recovers from this accident and he and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

rll, in defense of Rabid Moth, Salina Post's report was the 17 year old stated the motorcycle had his turn signal on. Very sad regardless. I have rode for 40 some years, and always assume the car will not see me, even when the driver is looking right at me. That knowledge has saved me more than a few times. Prayers to Troy and his family.

@passing_by; I understand why you mention the turn signal, but that doesn't make it okay for someone to enter the roadway. --- It was an unfortunate accident; no doubt about that. Stay safe, people.

ShadowCipher, I personally never trust anyone's turn signal. Whether it was off or on, obviously the pickup was in the wrong for pulling out. Again, when I am on my bike, I trust no one at anytime. That attitude has kept me alive, and I have taught every new rider to always remember they are invisible, so ride accordingly. To all fellow riders, stay safe!

How about you ignorant people realize that it is an acident and both people suffered injurys and everyone nows how salina reports things they twist all the facts they can!!! so how about everyone quits bashing Charles R. Smith and realize we all just need to pray for Troy and family and not worry about the rest!!!!

What I don't understand is why is the person who doesn't get hurt always the one to blame? It clearly says that the guy had his turn signal on. Yes, I know it says that the kid said it but honestly why would the kid lie. He wouldn't have anything to hide because he would feel bad about it and want it right. Honestly I don't know how old some of you are but you are bashing on a 17 year old kid that clearly didn't mean to do it. I hope and pray that the motorcyclist pulls out of it and gets better but reading all of these, it just doesn't seem fair. Just because he is young doesn't mean he should be the one to blame.
