Kansas House Defeats Immigrant Tuition Repeal

The law permits illegal immigrants who meet certain rules, such as graduating from a Kansas high school, to pay the lower tuition Kansas charges to residents of the state. The Kansas Board of Regents says about 500 students participate in the program.
The Kansas House has rejected an effort to repeal a 2004 law allowing some illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at public colleges and universities.
The law permits illegal immigrants who meet certain rules, such as graduating from a Kansas high school, to pay the lower tuition Kansas charges to residents of the state. The Kansas Board of Regents says about 500 students participate in the program.
House members defeated a proposed repeal Thursday on an unrecorded 68-32 vote during debate on a broader education bill.
Those favoring repeal said the tuition program rewards illegal immigrants and serves to attract others to Kansas.
But other House members said the students who benefit from the program are working toward citizenship and bettering their lives.

Holy Crap! Are you serious! This is just simply wrong on so many levels. Illegal aliens paying in state tuition! Allowed to attent college all while being in the country illegally! Here's an idea, instead of sending them to college, let's send them back to Mexico! Unbelievable.

And they couldn;t even get 15 House members to call for a recorded vote so there is no official record of who voted how. Yeah, that's transparent government by republicrats all right... I stand by my comment, I'd rather have an honest enemy than a lying friend... time to elect some democrats in Kansas.

I'm interested in knowing, at what point did it become OK for illegal immigrants to exploit our tax dollars and benefit from hard working, tax paying Kansas citizens!!?? ....."working toward citizenship and bettering their lives" hmmmmmm, how bout we make them work at getting citizenship, LEGALLY, first, then allow them these benefits. I think it's official, ALL of the Topeka idiots are smoking crack on the job!!!!We just as well sign our Country over to them now and get the hell out of here, in a few years they will be crossing the borders by the bus loads, OH WAIT, they already are!!!!

In the 1800's people shtick did illegal things had wanted posters dead or alive and a amount offered. It's time to go back to that policy with these illegal Mexicans.

Wow! I am surprised at the racism. I agree that illegal immigrants shouldn't receive any US benefits, but some of the comments lose their validity when you ad the racism.

All Mexicans aren't illegal, all white people aren't legal citizens and having no respect for an entire race isn't even remotely American.

ronnie when there are 75 illegals to 1 legal in our country racism is not a part of the equation. The legal mexicans should be up in arms helping get rid of the illegals but they are doing very little to help the situation. Ksal has alway's protected the illegals for what reason I do not know unless they have a bunch working for them somewhere. I believe the lawmakers themselves have broken the law by letting law breakers use public monies for education. Someone should look into this and take legal action against them as well.

@get a life, the best estimate of illegal immigrants is at about 11 million right now. The census tells us that we have 38 million legal immigrants right now. Where are you getting 75 to one with illegal being the larger number? Just so I am clear, if you feel like one race is generally one way, you will pigeon hold that entire race and claim them all as one way? Wow.
