Troopers and deputies work the crash scene Friday morning.

Three people are transported to the hospital Friday morning following a two-vehicle crash near Salina on Interstate 70 where both vehicles rolled.

Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Justin Rohr tells KSAL News that a Chevrolet Silverado truck and Chrysler PT Cruiser car were driving side by side, headed west. For an unknown reason, the truck collided with the car, and both vehicles rolled.

The driver of the truck, 49-year-old Rigoberto Gonzalez-Parra from Liberal, and a passenger, 45-year-old Yolanda Gonzalez, were both transported to the hospital. Troopers say that Rigoberto was buckled up, while Yolanda was not.

The driver of the car, 18-year-old Carson Simmons from Tonganoxie, was also transported to the hospital. She was buckled up.

The crash happened on I 70 just east of the junction with I 135 at 10:05 Friday morning.

I would guess that it would involve them driving and utilizing their cell phones or some electronic equipment since it seems that 98% of Kansans can't drive without a phone attached to their ear.

Judging from the names of those in the truck and those in the car, one might surmise the truck driver probably doesn't have a valid Kansas drivers license. Thus, he probably hasn't been trained in how to safely drive on Kansas roadways. You'd think someone would pass a law or two stating that only legal, licensed, residents of the state should be allowed the privilege of driving on our roadways.

@risingr, You said it right when you started your statement with "Judging". People can pass on family names without being accused of having no license and uneducated ion how to drive. Obviously there was an accident, but to assume that its because one driver has a Hispanic name and the other driver has an English/French name the accident must be because the heritage behind the Hispanic name makes Jim and illegal resident, untrained on how to drive? You are really reaching g with that one. Also, would you love to see hkw high taxes in Ks go up to after we stop receiving money from travelers through hotel taxes and such, when someone pass your laws that you have to live kn Ks to drive here.

KSdude I to at times am astounded myself. Some certainly can be attributed to inattention due to distractions in the vehicle but I think speed is a major factor. Interstates are very straight from point A to B and there is not much forgiveness when the motorist is hypnotized from the long stretches of nothing. And now motorists are traveling 75 mph to 80 mph on these highways which results in covering a lot more ground at any given time. Fatigue and speed do not mix and when a slight driver error occurs at these speeds the problem compounds itself. Lets face it you can be the most defensive driver in the world but when you are reacting to a problem you are always one step behind the curve. Just glad we are not reading about three folks killed in the crash.
