Seniors file into the Salina South High School Commencement.

Party supplies were in short supply, and the sounds of Pomp and Circumstance were in the air over the weekend in the Salina area. Hundreds of seniors from multiple schools and colleges walked across the stage and received diplomas.

Seniors at Salina Central, Salina South, and Salina Sacred Heart all graduated on Sunday. Prior to that, seniors at St. John's Military School, Ell-Saline, Kansas Wesleyan University, and Salina Area Technical College all graduated Saturday.

Commencement ceremonies were also held in numerous other area communities on Saturday and Sunday.

Seniors at Southeast of Saline graduate next weekend, while K-State Salina seniors graduated last weekend. Commencement at Brown Mackie College was a couple of weeks ago.

Congats and best wishes to ALL the 2012 graduates. And ladies, please quit wearing those REALLY high heals before you all end up with injuries and foot/back problems!! Or, at least, practice walking in them, most of you were having a terrible time just standing in them. Young Men, You would all be more attractive in clothes that actually fit you, remember, when you go apply for jobs, have interviews, most prospective bosses do not want to watch you trying to keep your pants from falling down while you are working. Oh, and stop hanging onto you "junk" like you think it's going to fall off!!! That's just GROSS!!

Why don't you be supportive of the graduates rather than tell them how to dress or walk? Times have changed, granny, we aren't in the stone age anymore. That's how kids act nowadays, and if the staff can deal with it and not say anything, I think everybody else, including you, can too.

dummy looks like she is hiking her dress its higher in the front than the back. what I see as wrong is the kid walking with jeans on under his robe. If he cannot dress up for an event such as graduation then he shold not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. what a loser.

katyc: I do not care what the staff is willing to accept, this is part of the problem with many young people today. They expect us to all lower our standards and expectations to what they feel like doing. I'm very supportive of graduates, I attended several and passed out many cards with checks in them. For you to say "that's how kids act nowadays" shows me you are much more tolerant of the way many young folks have discarded their self-respect and pride. How hard would it have been for the graduates to perhaps put on a nice pair of slacks for 1 1/2-2hrs. I'm not saying they should dress like Priests and Nuns, but to attend one of the most important events in your life dressed like a hooker and a gang banger to me was uncalled for!!! I think when the school got more relaxed about the dress code, that was a terrible mistake, I believe, for Graduation at least, they should have been required to attend in certain more acceptable attire. I hope the best for all of them.

As they enter the adult world, it won't take long to figure out, respect is something you earn, you are not entitled to it. To receive respect in the adult world, you have to show respect, not only for others but you should start with respect for yourself first. Dressing like a slob to me does not show self-respect.

I was once told by a smart man that you act how you dress. His words sure are true. These kids dress like bums and act the same way. The schools need to rethink their policies and make some drastic changes or lose revenue from the state. The schools no longer are turning out educated students. It was in a paper less than 15% of any graduating class comes out with any good education. Now Salina is giving them the use of cell phones in school and class if a teacher let's them use it. What is wrong with school officials and foremost our school board to approve such a thing.

katyc stoneage my butt. I will not support anyone who dresses the way these kids did for an important event in their lives. Once again where are the parents? Your saying thats how kids act now adays does not make it right. Nobody is teaching these kids whether in school or their parents and that is a big reason we have all the problems we do now a days. The staff in Salina schools and many other schools no longer care about their students. Many gave that up years ago. There may still be a couple who truly wish to help kids but they are far and in between
