Mediation To Be Option For Saline County Juveniles

Mediation option will be available to crime victims and low-level juvenile offenders
A pilot program scheduled to start in August aims to offer mediation as a way to resolve misdemeanor crimes involving juvenile offenders in Saline County.
The six-month program will offer the option of mediating a resolution instead of waiting for misdemeanor matters to make their way through the courts.
The mediation option will be available to crime victims and low-level juvenile offenders.
Ann Zimmerman, of Eggers & Zimmerman Law & Mediation, said participation will be voluntary. She said she and Saline County Attorney Ellen Mitchell have been working to define the scope of the program and develop guidelines.
She said so far she expects the program will be available for property crimes, some batteries and some school issues.

I really hope it DOES work!! There are many very low level kiddy crimes jamming up the court system. One problem I see would be the young criminal offenders not taking their crime serious enough by just using mediation as a resoulution. They will need to come up with a VERY HARSH punishment for the juvies that commit a crime after going thru the mediation program. The young criminals have NO remorse for their actions, they do not care who they hurt, what they damage etc... Very sad!!

This will never work. Who is benefiting monetary wise from this? Is it Zimmerman's group who will be doing the mediation? Just slapping these kids hands has not done anything to stop vandalism. Hopefully someone will run against Ellen and she will be gone.
