Health Department Closes; Will Relocate
KSAL Staff - Thu 04:32 PM 05/31/2012
A structure problem with the roof is causing the Salina / Saline County Heath Department to immediately close, and relocate.
Spokesperson Del Myers tells KSAL that the recently discovered roof issue makes it necessary to close because it causes safety concerns. Officials are currently determining how to correct the problem.
Myers says they will at least temporarily relocate, and are right now looking for a location.
According to Myers, though they hope to relocate all of the services they offer as soon as possible, there will be interruptions at least in the short term. Details on when and where the department will relocate will be released as soon as they are available.
Myers says at this point they do not know when, or if, they will be able to return to their current location at 125 West Elm Street.
Clients with upcoming appointments will be contacted by health department staff to reschedule or make other arrangements for receiving essential services.

There are several empty buildings in Salina that could be used to house the Health Department. This should not be a case where this situation is used as an excuse to get into a "new" or "fancy" building. How about the following locations: previous Big Lots, TSC, Ranger's Steak House, or the old Becker Tire building?

stirthepot: The Penn Campus (Saint John's Hospital) is in not good and safety conditions. I do local research in the area, I was told that Salina Regional is selling the Hospital to a private Pet Hospital for central Kansas.

What nonsense just get a construction crew in there and fix the problem. Why does the city have to make a big deal out of everything? We sure do not see them doing anything about inconveniencing 7000 or more people a day out on magnolia.
