Ejected Passenger Killed In Crash
KSAL Staff - Sun 08:31 AM 06/10/2012
One person is killed and two others are hurt in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Lincoln County late Saturday afternoon.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a car was headed east on I-70 in a construction zone. A tire failure occurred, causing the driver lose control. The car rolled, ejecting an unbuckled passenger.
The ejected passenger, 52-year-old Janine Reed, was killed.
The driver, 27-year-old Adam Reed, and another passenger, 50-year-old George Reed, were both hurt and were transported to Salina Regional Health Center. Both were buckled up.
All three of the victims are from Minerva, Ohio.
The crash happened just after 4:30 Saturday afternoon in Lincoln County, 3.5 miles east of the I-70 and K156 junction.

It seems the main goal of our state ticket writers is to report who is or is not wearing seat belts in wrecks. There bias reports always state when the deceased was not wearing a seat belt never when they are. Evidently they are given a coarse in this during training.

The tradegy is that a human being is dead - and it probably could have been prevented by wearing a seat belt. Of course, if you have a negative attitude toward most things, you focus on the highway patrol. Need to pack up your negative attitude and move away.

Logical why do you feel you need to ignore faults of law enforcement. If this person had a seat belt on and died the highway patrol would have never mentioned it and you inanimate very well that is how they do things. The only moving I am going to do is hold law enforcement accountable for their actions and their reporting.

There is a box to check on the report stating if the occupant wore a seatbelt. Why don't you tell KSAL to state if they had the belt on or not when they read the crash log. The Patrol doesn't give the information to the media, they look at the website, as you can. Getu is the biggest hater of KHP. He must have applied and got turned down.

The answer to the question asked of me is this: because the story isn't about KHP and/or my attitude toward them or law enforcement in general. The news story is that a person died too young in a tradegy and that is every parents nightmare. If i had a deep seated negative attitude to law enforcement, I would leave ksal.com and never post again. I would go to www.salinapost.com where all the really negative and jaded people hang out.

Ksomething where have you been hiding? Your significant other kansasfarmdud has been running off at the mouth the last week or so saying absolutely nothing. There is no way anyone would know in a violent row over if in fact a seat belt malfunctioned. The only reason this would be on a report is so the state can keep getting money from the feds. Otherwise it would not be there.

I do not think someone who speaks against the failures of law enforcement can be called a hater. logical and ksomething you both ignor all the errors law enforcement makes and all the enforcement they are not doing. We all know the highway patrol is just ticket writers and that is what they are trained to do. But law enforcement here in the city and county should be catching criminals and putting them away. Try and find the figures of crimes committed and the number of people arrested then open your pie traps again.

I don't (apparently) have a jaded view of law enforcement as others. But, it isn't about me or your opinion about the law enforcement. It is about the fact that someone died. Please consider taking the chip on your shoulder and move it salinapost.com where the really negative people hang out. Misery and glass half empty people love company.

Getu there is a black box in a car that gets downloaded to show all pertinent information. Seatbelt usage, time of speed before, during, and after the event. If there was any braking prior to. And for you civil rights advocates, a search warrant is given before it's used. And the good old fashion way of looking at the belt for a burn mark to see if it worked.

ksomethingoranother quit talking about something that does not happen at accidents. the report is filled out right then and there. there is no warrants gotten and no black box is removed. If there is a lawsuit filed maybe then all this goes down not before. This is the type of things that make people really look at law enforcement and see that they do part of a job but not the whole job. Solving crimes is a big part of that job but many many crimes go unsolved more than should.

logical wake up and smell the roses. I do not see any chip on anyone's shoulder that takes the side of those that believe law enforcement in many cases is not doing the proper job. Your views are just that and if you support the miserable job law enforcement does that is fine. I for one do not think we need a sheriff in office that should of retired 10 years ago or a chief of police that also should have retired. Staying in a position just to get the big checks is what both of these guys are doing denying other younger individuals the chance of taking over these positions and probably running the departments like they should be. Evidently you are not wise enought to understand this.

Also logical you have no knowledge if wearing a seat belt would have saved this ladies life or even if she indeed had one on and as mentioned malfunctioned. Stats show its a 50/50 deal. Maybe it was just her time to pass on.

My thoughts about the sherrif and the police chief aren't the issue. The story isn't about the work of law enforcement, it is about the fact that someone died. You have the right to your opinions re: law enforcement. This isn't the venue to discuss them. This is a news story about a tradegy of someone dying. I don't have the jaded view you do but there is a time and a place (not on this website) to discuss the failings or success of KHP and law enforcemnet.

KSOMETHING... When were black boxes put in cars? This isnt an airliner, train, or bus. You need to get your facts straight. They will not be put in cars until 2015, it is going through the government, the house and the senate. SO why dont you, Smokey99, and T-bone get together, eat some cheeto's and have a glass of kool-aid, and just shut the hell up...

NUMBER ONE LOGICAL THE PERSON KILLED WAS REPORTED TO BE WAS 52 YEARS OLD AND YOU STATED IN A POST THAT A YOUNG PERSON HAD DIED. UNLESS YOU ARE 80 YEARS OLD 52 IS NOT A YOUNG PERSON. THE ISSUE BEGAN WITH A COMPLAINT ON THE SEAT BELT. YOU THEN IN YOUR POST STARTED TELLING PEOPLE THEY HATED THE KHP ECT. MAYBE YOU SHOULD PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH AND ONLY STAY FOCUSED ON WHAT THE STORY IS INSTEAD OF CALLING OTHER PEOPLE NAMES ECT.

Logical as I read the posts the comments centered on the seat belt and how law enforcement always states when seat belts are not used. There is no way in a violent accident at this time that they immediately say someone was not wearing a belt. But they always assume.

Wow! The anger I get just because I think that some people are too jaded and negative. I was previously called "a bully" for suggesting that people need to be nicer...which made me wonder if that was a new definition of "bully" and how that would work on the playground: "teacher, make that person stop being a bully because they told me to be nice and positive."

Logical you are trying to be a bully. When I was on the play ground I used to beat down bullies and really enjoyed it. As one gets older one realizes there are other ways of handling things. If you wish to be a net bully well that's dealed with in other ways and I can do it.
