Police say the keys were left in the unlocked vehicle.

Police are investigating the theft of a work truck.

According to Lt. Scott Siemsen, police were contacted after a Salina man's truck was stolen.

John Windell told police he parked his 1997 Chevy utility truck with tool boxes in the alley behind 241 S. 5th Street on Friday afternoon.

The vehicle was left unlocked with the key in it.

Sometime between 2:35pm and 3pm, someone drove off with the truck and tools on board.

Total loss is listed at $10,000.

$10,000 ANOTHER FALSE INSURANCE CLAIM AS WELL AS A FALSE REPORT TO THE POLICE. IF THIS GUY LEFT IT UNLOCKED WITH THE KEY IN IT HE DESERVES TO LOSE EVERYTHING AND HOPEFULLY THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL TELL HIM THE SAME. AS FOR THE POLICE THEY SHOULD BE LOOKING INTO THIS AS HE LEFT IT AVAILABLE TO WHOEVER WANTED IT. I BELIEVE THERE IS A LAW ON THE BOOKS THAT EITHER A FINE IS CHARGED OR OTHER CHARGES CAN BE FILED FOR LEAVING KEYS IN AN UNATTENDED CAR.

Ok, people, if you are going to leave your keys in an unlocked vehicle, don't be too surprised when it disappears!!! And, that is a good question, I wonder if insurance will say, sorry bout your luck, we don't pay off on stupidity!!! With the crime rate in our community, anyone leaving things unlocked and accessible to thieves can't cry too much when they lose their stuff!! Police are investigating?? what's to investigate!! Not a real mystery here, I doubt they are looking too hard!!
