Health Department Is In Relocating Process
Del Myers - Tue 06:42 AM 06/12/2012
The Salina-Salina County Health Department is moving to new facilities at 625 E. North Street, and 710 E. Ash Street. Telephone and computer systems are in the process of being installed at the new locations; so during this time, office phones and e-mails are not working. A temporary cell phone number 785-819-6227, will be activated on Tuesday, June 12th to allow clients to contact the Health Department.
The building at 125 W. Elm was determined to be unsafe for occupancy, due to structural problems with the roof. The building has been closed to the public since May 31st. Due to high winds last week; city and county firefighters built temporary support trusses to make the roof safer for staff to enter the building to pack all equipment, supplies, files, computers, phones, furniture, and other building contents. Salina building inspection officials are monitoring the situation closely.
As a result of the move, many Health Department operations are being temporarily suspended. A primary goal during this relocation is to minimize disruption to services as much as possible. All health department home-based services will continue uninterrupted, as needed.
WIC, Clinic Services, Immunizations, Family Planning, Infectious Disease Control, TB Program, Breastfeeding Education, and Case Management are in the process of moving to 625 E. North Street (the former REMA Bakeware building). WIC services are now operational at the North Street location. Scheduled clients with WIC appointments will be seen. WIC clients with urgent needs may call 785-819-6227 or walk-in from 8AM to 4PM. WIC staff will serve them if they can, or will make appointments for them to be seen soon.
Other clinic clients may also call the temporary cell phone number (785-819-6227), or walk-in, if they have urgent needs or want to make an appointment for services. An opening date for the clinic has not yet been determined.
Administration, Health Education, Child Care Licensing, Environmental Health, Home Health, and Maternal/Child Health Services will be relocated to offices at 710 E. Ash Street (formerly Medialle Center, on the northwest corner of the old St. John’s Hospital campus.) Clients may call the temporary number to speak with staff, but the building is currently closed to the public. Salina Regional Health Center owns both properties.
The Health Department staff is working diligently to resume essential services as soon as possible, and will release more information as specific services become available. The cooperation and patience of the clients and the community is very much appreciated during this time of transition.
