Police Asking For Public's Help
Jeff Garretson - Wed 12:50 PM 06/13/2012
Police are looking to put the brakes on two men who led officers on a couple of high-speed chases.
According to Lt. Scott Siemsen - Salina Police officers broke off two separate high-speed pursuit incidents in the past week.
Police say 26-year-old Zachariah Humphreys and 29-year-old Brandon Cunningham were both being sought on misdemeanor warrants when they fled from traffic officers in non-related stops.
Humphreys' car reached speeds of 50-mph before police terminated the chase on Friday afternoon around Broadway and North Street.
Cunningham was clocked at speeds of 80-mph while eluding police early Wednesday morning around 1am as he headed south on Broadway.
Lt. Siemsen tells KSAL News that traffic officers consider many factors when pursuing a suspect.
"Part of that criteria is do we know the identity of the suspect," he said. "You have to also look at the conditions and environment."
SPD policy allows the officer in pursuit or a supervisor to terminate a high-speed chase without question.
If you know the location of either Humphreys or Cunningham, call Crimestoppers at 825-TIPS, text SATIPS to CRIMES (274637), or visit Salina Police Department and follow Crimestoppers link to submit a web tip.

WhoCares: That was during the day and around an area with a heavy population of children, you idiot. Someone could have been killed. I applaud the SPD for terminating the chases, for once, before someone got hurt or killed.

Test the waters go out there anytime of the day and cars are doing 50 out there or down Broadway. 80 is a different story. What I do not understand the police know who these guys are so go out and get them that's what they are paid to do. Why should private citizens need to get involved? You want us private citizens to get involved put a bounty on their heads and when we deliver them to the police station pay us the bounty and you have them. This helps the economy and gets the criminals off the street.

the reason they need help inn locating them is because they spend so much time in jail they dont have jobs or permanent residence's and they could be anywhere. if you check the booking page daily you will see one or the other atleast once a week and some times both at the same time.

If what you say is true they do not need help in finding them. I guess I feel there is more than doing police work than writing citations. A bounty is a splendid idea.

If you are a resposible citizen you should feelit is your duty to help the law enforcement personel. They cannot be everywhere at all times and they need information from the public to protect you.

To WhoCares: Without knowing the specifics, I can only speculate, but here is a thought. If a car is going 50 heading south on broadway at North, they are heading to the viaduct. I don't know about you, but if they are going 50 over that bridge, the other side is going to be blindsided and likely broadsided. If they were on North st heading out of town, or heading into town, I can totally understand that too. There are too many unknown factors here. To Iamgonnagetu: How would you be feeling if something happened to your family member and the police didn't bother asking for the public's help, then the person came and did something to another family member when they could have been turned in all along? It is our civic duty to assist them. Just like if you see a car accident happen before your eyes. Do you just drive off and ignore it? Or do you call for help and see what you can do?

Vmend2010 evidently you are not aware of all the unsolved murders in Salina and Saline county. Yea they want our help but will not give out enought information that someone can help. But a bounty on these people's heads and they will receive all kinds of help. A car accident is a totally different thing reporting it is not doing the work that the police get paid to do.

stirthepot maybe 30 years ago this was the case but not now with a department that is being run so bad. Yes they cannot be everywhere but their presense sure can be. Instead of having four police cars sitting around magnolia and ohio giving out tickets they can be patroling. they did this when they were doing crawford and ohio. If we lived in a crime free area I could see them doing this but we do not and there are many unsolved cases that can be worked on both by detectives and the patrols.

Another note crimestoppers should be retired. they do not pay out enought people to make it worth anyone's time. This program has run its coarse. Put a bounty on their heads especially salina's most wanted. Put a price over each picture and see how fast you fill up the jail.

I have seen people blow by police cars doing at least 50 on Broadway and they did not light them up.
