Fire Emergency Declared For 9 Kansas Counties
Associated Press - Thu 07:55 AM 06/28/2012
Counties covered by the declaration issued Wednesday evening are Barton, Ellis, Ellsworth, Lincoln, Mitchell, Osborne, Phillips, Rooks and Russell
Gov. Sam Brownback has issued an emergency declaration for nine counties of central and north-central Kansas, citing the risk of wildfires.
Counties covered by the declaration issued Wednesday evening are Barton, Ellis, Ellsworth, Lincoln, Mitchell, Osborne, Phillips, Rooks and Russell.
The Kansas Division of Emergency Management says a large grass fire in Phillips County was contained Wednesday evening, as were fires in Rooks and Ellis counties. Other fires were contained earlier Wednesday in Russell County, and near Great Bend in Barton County.
Some of the counties covered by the declaration were included because they may be in the path of spreading fires.
Emergency Management spokeswoman Sharon Watson says there were no reports of evacuations or injuries or of houses being damaged, although some farm buildings and outbuildings have been affected.

Why is Saline County not putting a ban on burning and fireworks. Are the people in these positions to do so that ignorant? If so let's fire their butts and get someone in there with more common sense and wanting to protect the citizens and their property in Saline County.

i don't think they are as ignorant as you are after posting all the time about this burn ban you appear to be so concerned about...here's an idea...if you are so concerned about the ban, why don't you apply for a position where you can make that judgement call...oh wait, you are the ignorant one...that's right! Give it up guy...you are annoying as hell!

come on now your brain must have been damaged at birth. You think causing people to have their homes destroyed or property damaged is funny? How about all the guys who have to fight these fires you think that's a fun thing? I agree with Iamgonna with what they said should be done with you. Evidently you have ties to some fireworks stand to all of a sudden showing up on here with your nonsense.

Whats really making no since at all.. Sam Brown back has issued a burn ban in 9 counties. He should of issued a burn ban for the entire state of kansas along with a state wide fireworks ban when conditions become dry like this.. We could be the next colorado if we are not smart.. We as communities need to think before we light.

My prediction is that the city will all of a sudden deiced to ban the fireworks on July 3rd citing we cant allow with the weather (as if it hasn’t been 100 for 2 weeks) so that when everyone sets there’s off on the 4Th (cause they have already paid for them) then Salina’s finest will ticket everyone they can and make as much revenue as they can. Just a prediction but i wouldn’t put it past the great city of Salina.

I'm with UPNATEM, in fact I'll put $100.00 on it. I'll predict the ban is announced on the afternoon of the 3rd (after 3:00) and will take effect immediately. The fix for Colorado is to use chainsaws for their intended purpose. The left-wing, liberal, whale saving, tree hugging, pillow biting democrat won't allow any logging and sure as hell won't stand for the use of any kind of pesticides to control the pine beetle. Was out there for vacaction the last two years, everyone knew this fire was going to eventually happen. Sad!

I agree with you people once the good old boys in charge help out there friends with the firework stands they will put the ban in effect. For the many people in the Journal story especially the fire department with their testing story have lost all my respect. If anyone should have pointed out the danger it should have been the fire department.
