Independence Day Activities Planned In Salina
KSAL Staff - Tue 09:24 AM 07/03/2012
Plenty of activities are planned in Salina to celebrate Independence Day on Wednesday.
Things begin at Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure, where the zoo is hosting a “Freedom Safari” event. The giraffe feeding station will be open, zoo teens will be selling sno-cones, and the Overlook restaurant will have a special “Freedom Safari” menu. Kids get free admission on Wednesday with a paid adult.
Thousands of people are expected in Oakdale Park in Salina to celebrate a good old fashioned 4th of July. The annual Playday in the Park and All-American 4th of July will be a day of old-fashioned games, including things like ring and beanbag tosses and three legged races. The event includes free all-American food as well. Hot dogs, chips, watermelon, ice cream, popsicles and soft drinks will be served. Activities for the Playday in the Park and All-American 4th of July run from noon until 4:00.
Following the fun and games of the day a free concert and spectacular fireworks display will wind things down. The annual Skyfire Fireworks spectacular is scheduled for 10:00 Wednesday night at the East Crawford Recreation Area. The fireworks display will again this year be synchronized to a very special patriotic music montage, which will be broadcast on News Radio 1150 KSAL.
A free concert will precede the fireworks. The Soul Preachers will perform, beginning at 7:00.
Though fireworks are legal in Salina, they can only be discharged on private property. They cannot be discharged on public property, and that includes in streets and parks. They cannot be discharged at Oakdale Park, or at the East Crawford Recreation Area. Any violators will be cited.

Interesting to know it was a typo.. FYI if anyone doesn't know there way around I got some tips for you to avoid crawford after the fireworks at skyfire. Go south on markley to mag then turn east on mag and go east until you come to simpson road then turn north on simpson then keep going until you get to old 40 and turn west on old 40. The old 40 highway will wrap around to intercept ohio.. This route is lengthy but will be better then the bumper to bumper traffic on crawford..

The main event at skyfire this year will be Joe Koch having a rocket put up his butt and he gets to take a ride for all to enjoy. Good Luck with that Joe and don"t worry about causing a fire because it is just not right here for that to happen.

Well now the police are going to let people use Magnolia. They by doing so presents a good legal argument as to why people cannot use these streets antithetical time. I think we need to organize a convoy daily of 100 or more cars and drive thru there and let's see how many cars they can ticket. Then let's fight the tickets in court an fill the courtroom with witness's. These are public streets they did not block off any street when they were redoing Crawford and Ohio so why now.

"The fireworks display will again this year be synchronized to a very special patriotic music montage, which will be broadcast on News Radio 1150 KSAL" -- It will be the same music from last year. The entire display is less than 15 minutes. If you've never been to "SKYFIRE".... don't bother. A waste of time. The entire display takes less time than it takes to drive and find a spot to sit.
