A Salina man was ticketed for disorderly conduct.

Carol Reed, 63 of 417 Venus, and Cheryl Harp, 62 of 821 Hancock, were running a petition booth on Tuesday, July 17 at 1201 W Crawford. The petition drive is an effort to gain signatures against the non-discrimination ordinance that was amended by the Salina City Comission in May.

Michael Levier, 23 of 607 S Third, did not agree with the petition. According to the Salina Police Department, Levier sractched out six of the names on the petition and shouted obscenities at the two women.

Levier was ticketed for damage to property and disorderly conduct.

Now the cops write tickets for disorderly conduct? Anyone else would have been arrested. Here is a good example how gay people have more rights then the rest of us straight people. This gay should have been arrested and tossed in a cell. Picking on 2 old ladies is wrong. Let's find this gay and give him some of his own medicine.

Yep, anyone else would have been arrested for this!! What makes him so special? OH!!! THAT'S RIGHT---They are a "protected"class now!!!! They were allowed to voice their opinion, they need to leave the people and their petitions alone, let the chips fall where they may!! I signed one by Jerry Ivey park one day!!!

I stopped to sign and the guy told me I appeared to have been drinking and in good faith he would not allow me to sign. I said, yep this LBGT issue will make you want to have a drink or two. He told me to come back another day when I had not had anything to drink and was thinking clearly. So far I have not made it to sign my name.

The bars part of this is if you live in the county you cannot sign it. Talk about discrimination here is a big case of it. Just because one lives in the county they are liable if they do not follow the ordinance but cannot vote on it. Shades of Hilter here.

If you live in the county, you do not have to follow it unless you have rentals or own a business in the city limits----it is a city ordinance.

Well, I'll start off with saying that I don't condone his actions but I do support what he was going for. Also, for the record, I do know Mike Levier personally and he's a good guy (and not gay). He just has no tolerance for people who would take others rights away for whatever the reason. There was a better way to go about taking a stand but I personally believe that the ordinance was for the good of Salina. There are a LOT of LBGT people in Salina and some of them have lost their jobs because of the prejudice that's still there. I do wish that people would think rationally about these kind of things but maybe that's asking too much...

Let me start off by saying that while I myself am not gay, I have several friends who are. Second off, I didn't shout obscenities at the women. There was a gentleman who standing with them who said to me "Why don't come back on over here big boy?" The only obscenity I said was directed towards him and I told him to "suck it." While I admit there was a better way to go about making my statement, I do not apologize for the statement I've made. The rights of another individual should never be left up to a popular vote, or have you all forgotten that "All men are created equal?" You have no right to determine whether or not another individual should have the same rights as yourself unless they have committed a crime. And on the subject of the punishment I have received, I received a ticket because the charge was not a felony charge and I cooperated with the police 100%. I'm not a guy who goes around picking on women. Why don't you try getting both sides of the story before you start jumping to conclusions.

And to anyone who was thinking of jumping on the bandwagon of scribbling out petitions, don't. My actions were irrational and immature. There are better ways to go about getting your message out there and I strongly suggest you seek them out. Thanks for taking the time to read these two comments, Mike.

Unlike almost everyone else who chooses to blindly believe whatever's written - I WAS THERE & some MAJOR facts are possibly deliberately being left out by the media. Such as, it was A MAN (term used LOOSELY) who was there with the women that Mike was confronting, AFTER the man said "Why don't you come on back over here, big boy"changed his mind when Mike opened the car door to ask "what" THEN it was "get your ASS outta here, big boy". Mike was raised around strong independent women & learned VERY early on to NEVER-NOT EVER be disrespectful to women! He IS a good, decent person who just can't stand to see someone else's rights taken away. Get ALL facts, then form the opinions folks!

Was there another way to have handled the situation? Could he have chosen a more effective & positive way to make a stand? Perhaps. But who has not ever made a mistake, then thought later "Gee maybe I should've done THIS instead .." For those wondering, my report "wasn't needed" because the others there & myself had no prior knowledge of what his alleged intentions were. Don't know if any reporter, or anyone, ever read OR even seen Mike's incident report? I guess it's too much to ask that people have ALL sides of the story! My opinion the Journal wrote it the way they did to create sensationalism & to make it a more "interesting" article.

Mike's a good guy. But they have a right to circulate a petition. That's part of the process. This is a hot button issue, and anger only leads to more anger. You did exactly what they wanted you to do. Now they have something to fear. My advice, lay low.
