New Mix Deemed Illegal, Seized
Jeff Garretson - Thu 12:17 PM 07/26/2012
The Drug Task Force is asking for the public's help in stopping the distribution of a new potpourri mix.
One day after seizing over four and a half pounds of illegal herbal potpourri products from three local businesses, Task Force Commander, Lt. Jim Norton says they are hoping the public will notify them of any other products that contain the chemical substance designated as UR 144.
"If they're shopping and they see synthetic cannabinoid products - such as 'Zombie Matter' or any other that they believe is an illegal drug to call us. Let us investigate it so we can get it off the street," he said.
On the heels of an emergency order issued on Monday by the Kansas Board of Pharmacy, making a chemical substance known as UR 144 - illigal, agents from the I-135/I-70 Drug Task Force seized 4.6 pounds of herbal products that had been treated with UR 144 - from Pack Rat Smokes, 695 S. Broadway, Food Mart, 220 W. Crawford and Pump Mart at 1118 N. 9th.
Norton says charges were not filed against the businesses, but the seized products will be held as police evidence.

I'm sure next month they will come out with some other new form of the chemical and start to sell it instead. Legalize pot and we wouldnt have these harmful manmade drugs on the streets. Marijuana is not a drug, It is a plant that people have enjoyed smoking for 1000's of years.

My God! Not again. OK, here goes: Marijuana (Cannabis) is a plant, THC, also known as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, is the principal psychoactive constituent (AKA drug) of the plant. Yep, folks have been smoking it for thousands of years. However, thousands of years ago it was near impossible to get high, hop in your mom's Buick, go speeding down Crawford St and kill someone. It would help if we considered our fellow citizens for a moment. I drive on the same streets you do when you're high. My wife and kids drive on those streets also. Someday I will have to pay for your medical bills relating to treating your brain damage. The 1930's have nothing to do with it. I'll make you a deal, you get high and run someone over and kill them, know in your heart that I will follow YOUR wife and kids to the mall and run them down in the parking lot.

Little different now isn't it. It's not just about you anymore. Your family is involved. Not just about you getting high, someone you love is in danger because of your actions. Is it really worth endangering other people just so you can smoke a joint?

Simply making a point. Too often there are those who are unwilling to see the other side of the coin. They will defend their opinion to legalize just about any kind of drug and never once consider the dangers to those around them. You know I would never carry out what I stated above, but I feel it makes the point quite clearly.

I do not condone the use of pot, except perhaps in a medical setting. However, I think the "war on drugs" is a huge waste of time money and energy!! This "war" cannot be won, no way, no how, no matter how much money you throw at it, or how much in denial people want to be. Fact is, pot is here to stay!! Why not legalize it, tax it and control the sale of it. Look at the dealers that would go out of business, prisons/jails would empty out a little. And, the revenue it would generate for the state would go a long way to help Kansas budget. It should be handled just like someone drinking and driving, is someone stoned really any worse driving than someone drunk? I do see the side where noone wants their family placed in harms way by the idiots on the street that are "under the influence"--OF ANYTHING!! If someone is stoned and driving and kills someone, it would be the same as if they were drunk driving and kill someone.

Unless of course you are rich enough to buy your way out of the problem like one of our local, prominent business men!! He killed someone drunk driving and never spent a day in jail for it, That sucks, justice should not be for sale, the unfortunate reality is though--It is for sale, daily!!! It should be automatic, mandatory time in prison when you kill someone drunk driving, no matter how much money you have!!!
