Conservative Wind Of Change Blows

The winds of change blew Tuesday night as the primary election final results came in. Incumbent State Senator Pete Brungardt and incumbent Saline County Commissioners John Reynolds and Jerry Fowler all lost.

In one the more bitter local primary races in recent memory, Conservative Republican Tom Arpke defeated the more moderate Pete Brungardt. Arpke will now face Democrat Janice Norlin in the November General Election.

Conservative Republican JR Claeys won in tight race for the 69th Kansas House of Representatives seat. Claeys defeated the more moderate Bruce Wyatt, and will now face Democrat Gary Swartzendruber in the primary election.

In the race for the 71st Kansas House of Representatives seat, on the Republican side Diana Dierks defeated Ronald Young. She will now face Democrat Alan Jilka in the general election.

In the Saline County Commission Race, incumbent Republicans John Reynolds and Jerry Fowler both lost.

Jim Gile defeated Reynolds, and will face Democrat Jennifer Bonilla-Baker in the general election. Bonilla-Baker defeated Vicki Koepsel in the Democratic Primary.

John Price defeated Jerry Fowler on the Republican side as well. He will now face Democrat Janice Morris in the general election.

An incumbent that did not lose is Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski. The long-time sheriff defeated challenger Bart Allen.

In the race for Saline County Treasurer, on the Republican ticket Jim Dubois prevailed, and will face Johnna Vossler in the general election.

Saline County Clerk Don Merriman says that voter turnout was 23.36 percent. He says that Republican turnout was at 42 percent, while about 20 percent of Democrats turned out.
