Saline County Commissioners appoint a new Emergency Management Director. Hannah Furbeck takes over the position, effective Thursday.

Furbeck takes over for Joe Koch, who resigned earlier this week. Koch was arrested last week in connection with an alleged domestic incident.

Furbeck was the Assistant Emergency Management Director prior to her new appointment.

Me to what gets me is the story of all the commissioners giving him a hug after he resigned according to the paper. I would never hug a wife beater oh I guess he has not been convicted yet so its ok. Glad to see these commissioners leave now when the new guys take office they need to clean up the rest of the people working there including Rita D.

I know Mrs. Furbeck will do wonders for emergency management. She should have been hired as the Director in the beginning. Joe should have never got the chance to be in that position! WAY TO GO MRS. FURBECK!

I hope the first thing she does is look into the July 4th fiasco!!! All the fires and dangerous conditions!! Even Hutchinson has revamped the firework law for next year to allow for the unsafe conditions. I still pretty angry that Koch is suspended "WITH PAY" pending the outcome!!! HUH!!! That's one way to get a paid vacation at taxpayer expense!! Guilty or not, there was apparently enough evidence to bring charges against him, why should taxpayers be obligated to pay him while he enjoys the rest of the summer on our dollars!!! I do not get the "suspended with pay" policy our commissioners seem to use so freely, like when the city cop got in the trouble, he was off with his pay until they decided what to do with him, then he was put back to work!! Amazing.

The point being made was that he was suspended with pay and should not have received pay. He knows he is guilty that is the reason he resigned as he did not want to get terminated.
