Poker runs and charitable poker tournaments are not allowed in Kansas

Kansas gambling regulators say an increasingly popular fund-raising activity is illegal in the state because gambling provisions don't include charitable exceptions.

Racing and Gaming Commission spokesman Bill Miskell told The Garden City Telegram that poker runs and charitable poker tournaments are not allowed in Kansas. That prompted the newspaper to cancel a Texas Hold 'Em tournament next week that would have helped fund its Newspaper in Education Program.

Several poker runs — in which motorcycle riders pay an entry fee and drive to various locations to pick up playing cards — have taken place in Garden City this summer and in previous years.

Miskell says it's up to the local county attorney to prosecute violators. Finney County attorney John Wheeler that's not high on his priority list.

I don't ride bikes, and I don't play poker, but if the event is for a good cause, like a toy run, poker run, or a little hold'em. If the state doesn't like it F#$%*m. This law is as bad as obamacare, but this time it is probably rebuttlplican instead of democrat.

I do not participate in these events, but I have no problem with an event that will raise money for a good cause. As long as ALL the money is passed along to the charity, after expenses, where's the harm??!! I wish the state would MYOB on issues that are not causing any harm for the public. Another stupid thing our politicians wasted their time on!!!

So if you have a poker run and the winner donates his winnings to the cause that would be illeagel too I think Mr Brownback needs to reconsider this law

HEY STATE OFFICALS ,MAYBE YOU OTTA LOOK INTO YOUR OWN STATE FUNDRAISING, LIKE CHARGING $500 -$1000 FOR A STEAK DINNER TO TRY TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CAMPAIGN RE-ELECTIONS, ETC.. JUST TO GET VOTES AND GET A HIGHER SALARY ,, INSTEAD OF TRYING TO CLOSE DOWN THINGS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SOMEBODYS WILL TO LIVE ,,, IF YOU DONT LIKE POKER RUN ,CALL IT A RIDE RAFFLE, AND USE CARDS INSTEAD ON NUMBERED TICKETS ,,, ,AND DO THE SAME THING ,,,, THE GOVERNMENT BEEN DOING THINGS LIKE THAT SINCE ITS FIRST INCEPTION .

ROCKER: That's a wonderful thought!! I say any person running for a public office should have to fund the campaign strictly on their own money, NO FUND RAISING DINNERS FOR THEM, NO CAMPAIGN DONATIONS WILL BE ALLOWED!!! If you do not have access to the money to campaign, perhaps you should get off your butts and start going out into public, meet the people personally and talk to them about what they would like to see happen. I throw all those damn campaign things I get in the trash anyway!!! Those are a huge waste of money. And the TV ads, well, who really believes anything they say on there??!!

That place on Broadway is a gambling place plain and simple. They put up blinds on all the windows so no one can see in to hide what exactly is going on it there. Evidently the cops are either being paid to look the other way or someone important in Salina is involved in it some how. If they continue to let it operate I think I will open up a small gambling joint myself.
