Kansas Lake to be Emptied, Stocked with Better Fish
Associtated Press - Sun 12:37 PM 08/12/2012
A popular state fishing lake in south-central Kansas will soon be emptied of water — and fish.
Wildlife biologists have determined that problematic species like invasive white perch have crowded out more desirable sport fish at Kingman State Fishing Lake.
The Wichita Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/QOpXhS ) the 144-acre lake will soon be drained, with all of the fish to be poisoned and left to die. The Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism will refill the lake and eventually restock it bluegill, northern pike, largemouth bass and channel catfish.
This isn't the first time the state has rehabilitated Kingman Lake, but fisheries biologist Jeff Koch says this time, the public won't be allowed to salvage any of the doomed fish. That's so people don't mistakenly take white perch and introduce them elsewhere.

These people are paid with our taxpayer monies? Let's fire the bunch of them. First off we are in a drought so how stupid is this to drain and then refill. Where's the new water coming from? NOW let's talk about the fish. How many people could be fed by these fish? It's to bad the people in charge make so much money that they and their families bellies are full. Salvage the fish and give it to shelters and food banks to help people.

Why don't you get your pole and go fishing there now? Sounds like there are plenty of perch to be had. Clean and freeze them, stock your freezer as well as your friends and neighbors. Shelters and food banks have rules on what can be used. It's a fishing lake--if that is all that is in there, I support making it a better lake for fishing.

Another one that never has known to be hungry or needed assistance so you thumb your nose at those that can benefit from it.

flagday fish from our lakes can be used in any shelter or food bank. Maybe they need to turn it into a parking lot if they cannot manage it.

Iamgonnagetu.... if you knew anything about fishing you would know that this type of fish will eat out any other game fish of their food source. They would take over the lake and then there would be nothing else than them in the lake and on top of that that type of fish is NOT a good fish to eat due to all of the fine and think bones that are in them. As far as the drought. This is the best time to drain a lake and have it dregged out improving the lake in the long run. The deeper the lake is the better lake will be. There is a thing called a thermocline that fish need to be able to survive. The more shallow a body of water is the better chances it is for the Blue Green alge is to spawn. Take the time to look at the bigger picture and see what is best for the lake and then grab a pole and go fishing there in 2 years. You will be glad they did it!!!!!!!!

Hey nutz how about the stats on how many people eat the fish and truly enjoy it overuse those that hate it. Also you do not mention where the water is coming from to refill the lake.

Would that kill the zebra muscles?
