Kansas officials say neither candidate has asked for a recount in a Democratic legislative primary that ended in a tie.

Tom Brungardt, of Milford, and Melody Saxton, of Junction City, each received 206 votes in the Aug. 7 primary for the 65th Kansas House District.

Candidates had until Friday to request recounts. Because Brungardt and Saxton did not, the State Board of Canvassers will decide their primary by drawing lots or flipping a coin.

The winner will face Republican Allan Rothlisberg, of Grandview Plaza, for the open seat in November.

Saxton didn't return a message Friday seeking comment.

Brungardt says he calculated the odds of winning a recount as roughly the same as winning a drawing of lots, and he'd face paying for a recount if he lost.
