Ellis Names New Police Chief
Associtated Press - Sun 06:22 AM 10/07/2012
The western Kansas town of Ellis has a new police chief.
The Hays Daily News reports that the Ellis City Council voted 5-1 this week to approve the hiring committee's recommendation to name part-time Ellis police officer Taft Yates as the new police chief. He replaces Randy Taylor, who resigned recently to become chief of police in Clarkdale, Arizona.
Yates' starting salary is about $19 per hour.
The Ellis Police Department has five full-time officers, including the chief, and one part-time officer.
Mayor Dave McDaniel says the town of about 200 residents also recently hired a new fire chief and a new city clerk.

Salina needs a change as well but we won't be as lucky because nobody wants our chief of police so he will either have to be fired or forced into retirement.

Crime is down by 37.5% over the past 9 years. That is a fantastic record that we must credit to our fantastic law enforcement agencies and their fantastic leadership. Fantastic VICTORY.

crime is up not down this is a misconception being posted on here. The chief was called up on the carpet because of taxpayer complaints and he is trying to protect his job.
