A couple of more windfarms, including one in Ellsworth and Lincolns Counties are on-line and producing energy for Westar.

According to Westar, the Post Rock Wind Farm located in Ellsworth and Lincoln counties was developed and is owned by Wind Capital Group. It began production Sept 28th. The wind farm can produce up to 201 MW of electricity when wind conditions permit.

The Ironwood Wind Power Project is in Ford and Hodgeman counties on a site owned by Westar. That wind farm began commercial operation Aug. 31.

In 2012, Kansas is slated to more than double its installed wind energy to more than 2,700 MW. Westars owns or has acquired rights to about one-fourth of that capability.

In addition, Westar has completed several major high voltage transmission lines that have helped strengthen the state's electrical grid and also provide the infrastructure needed to move wind power produced in rural areas to population centers.

Just a little more energy that we did not buy from overseas.
