VIDEO: Bikers Deliver Toys And Smiles

Riders gathered at the Salina Central Mall.

A relatively warm and windy late November afternoon greeted hundreds of bikers, and those who gathered to watch them, at the 26th annual Salina Toy Run.

In the past, riders have had to deal with sub zero temperatures for the event. That was not a problem this year, with the temperature hovering around 60 degrees. Though still dressed for what would still be a chilly ride, many riders wore festive hats, and even a few costumes including Santas and elves.

The event began at the Salina Central Mall, with riders lining up at 1:00 in the afternoon. They left at 2:00, weaving their way through Salina, escorted by Salina police. People gathered along the route to support, and to watch and wave the long processions of motorcycles and riders.

Along with riders and passengers, each motorcycle transported at least one toy. The toys were delivered to Emmanuel Foursquare Gospel Church, and will be donated to the Ashby House family homeless shelter, and the Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas.

Following the ride, many of the riders headed to Harley-Davidson of Salina for a hot bowl of soup at a benefit chili feed.
