Shoppers in Salina got an early start this year on Black Friday savings.

With multiple stores opening at various times on Thanksgiving Day, and then staying open all night, bargain hunters were out early, and in force. Target, Kmart, Sears, and Walmart were among storesin Salina that began offering Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving night.

KSAL News spoke with multiple people, and the consensus was that the allure of saving big money on big-ticket items was just too much to resist. The hottest items were electronics.

For those stores that didn't open Thanksgiving, there were long lines of shoppers gathered outside early Friday morning waiting to get in.

The day after Thanksgiving is known as "Black Friday" because it is a day when traditionally retailers make a profit, ending the day in the black. It is known as the start of the holiday shopping season.

Despite dense crowds and congested parking lots, Black Friday is not the busiest shopping day of the year. Retailers say the Saturday before Christmas long eclipsed the day after Thanksgiving as the busiest shopping day of the season.

Industry analysts predict that Black Friday spending will be up 3.8% to an estimated $11.4 billion.

The lure of a few bucks on brand name products that are made cheaper just for black friday is just stupid.... manufacturers have admittedly used sub par products made cheaper than normal on a lot of the big ticket items JUST FOR black friday... wake up sheeple
