Kansas Honor Flights Halted After Money Goes Missing

As many as 100 World War II veterans have missed their chance to travel to Washington to see their war's memorial.
As many as 100 World War II veterans have missed their chance to travel to Washington to see their war's memorial after about $110,000 disappeared from a Kansas nonprofit that organized free trips for them.
Fifty-seven-year-old LaVeta Miller, of Great Bend, is charged with two counts of theft by deception. Her attorney declined to comment.
Miller previously led Central Prairie Honor Flight, which raised nearly $1.2 million from 2008 to 2012. But it ran out of money this year, and leaders now say it's about $40,000 in debt.
Another group has taken over as the lead Honor Flight provider in Kansas, but its flights have been smaller. Officials say the matter is urgent because more than 600 World War II veterans die each day.

I know of 4 WWII vets that've been able to go on this very worthwhile trip. They all came home with thumbs up for the whole thing...which is truly remarkable. I hope justice is served, and that everyone else waiting their turn will have the same opportunity to go.

That is despicable. You give your money in the hopes to give back to these aging vets that put EVERYTHING on the line for our country and some selfish p.o.s steals the funding.....pathetic.

If there were checks and balances put into place things like this would be a very rare occurance. The heads of these organizations and companies make it easy for someone to steal. A big part of the dishonesty is the wages paid, But if it was not easy to steal we would not read story after story about it. I know one person who stole from a local company only to move to another city and was hired in a like position for another company and they ended up stealing from them. A check on this person would have turned their record up but the company was lax and got taken.
