Salina Police hand out 22 citations to adults for seatbelt violations.

According to Lt. Russ Lamer, police set up checkpoints at three locations on Monday evening between 5:30pm and 9:30pm.

Police checked seatbelts at the off-ramp at Crawford and I-135, Saturn and 9th and along the 2400 block of S. 9th. Police wrote 22 citations to adults for seatbelt violations and handed out one ticket for a child restraint violation.

Lt. Lamer also tells KSAL News that four other vehicle violations were ticketed along with one arrest made after a passenger was identified with an outstanding warrant.

Lt. Russ Lamer says a special city wide saturation patrol is planned for Friday, November 30th from 11pm through 3am.

The overtime hours are being funded through an Impaired Driver Deterrence Program grant administered through the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Are we going to have undercover cops walking in the roads again? How many resources did the police use to get 22 $10 tickets? I beet they spent all day planning for this mass bust of low life citizens.

I think travelers would not come to Salina again for receiving the seatbelt citations. City of Salina lose the tax revenues from hungry travels....

With all of the vandalism and burgalrys and home invasions lately you would think they could change their priorities and work on these and not seatbelt problems. Forget the grants and fight crime and not the traffic infractions. Some nights there are 20 to 25 traffic stops per hour, that means not many looking for thieves.

All these law enforcement agencies always want the public to know they are getting grants to waste their ticket writing. They evidently believe the taxpayers are stupid. These grants are taxpayer monies plain and simple. Now if they said they were using monies taken from drug dealers thats another story. But those monies seem to disappear somewhere. Tell us Chief of police how much did you spend to make $220?

Talk about taking a BIG bite out of crime! Woweee, I feel so much safer now living in Salina, knowing that seat belt violations are in check, and to think I was getting concerned about burglaries and robberies taking place in our fair city. Thank You KDOT for the Impaired Driver Deterrence program. Kansas tax payers dollars well spent!
