Governor Sam Brownback says Kansas lawmakers should take another look at his suggestions to pay for massive income tax cuts he signed into law earlier this year.
The Republican governor told hundreds of people at a forum in Overland Park on Tuesday that he won't consider restoring tax rates to previous levels.
In January, the state will reduce individual income tax rates, drop the top tax rate to 4.9 percent from 6.45 percent and increase the standard deductions claimed by married couples and heads-of-household. The state also will exempt the owners of 191,000 partnerships, sole proprietorships and other businesses from taxes.
Legislative researchers estimate the cuts will be worth $4.5 billion over the next six years and create collective budget shortfalls approaching $2.5 billion during the same period

Think about this when you go to renew your tags, call a state office in Topeka, when you try to drive your cars on the highways during snow and ice storms or when you crash or break down and need the police on the highways. Don't get mad because nobody is there to listen to your problems, send a letter using the Post Office and let ol' Uncle Sammy know how great you think he is. Remember, he controls the state so give KDOT and KHP a break and use that Google to find his number to call him....

It's funny that Republicans give huge tax-cuts that do NOTHING for the economy and create monster deficits (look at Bush Presidency). Then they cut everything else to pay for it. Social Services, road funding, healthcare, prison, schools, and everything else since nothing is exempt. Then the middle class, retired, poor and everybody else have to pay more taxes because there is a huge shortfall. I will probably be long dead before the damage done by these policies are fixed.

I miss the real grand old republican party of Reagan and Ike. Now, we see a tea party and Republicans bordering on lunacy.

When your property taxes go up, remember that Tom Arpke is directly benefiting from these tax cuts. His small business will allow him to pay ZERO Kansas income tax. I suspect he will be using that new found cash to hire two or three Salinans. After all, he told us eliminating the tax on small business would lead to more hiring.

Stop blaming the impending shortfall and regressive policies to follow on Sammy Klause and his merry elves at the state house. The blame lies squarely on the majority of Kansas voters. LOW INFORMATION VOTERS!

The grand old days of Reagan. Compromise with the liberals, spend money like a drunken loon, make excuses for no veto's on liberal spending bills, quadruple the debt. Yea gotta miss those days.
