Tools Stolen from Cell Tower Crew
Jeff Garretson - Fri 11:29 AM 12/07/2012
The Saline County Sheriff's Office is investigating after numerous tools are taken from a construction site.
According to Sheriff Glen Kochanowski, someone broke into a locked trailer that was parked near the intersection of S. Cunningham and Crawford, and removed tools and equipment owned by Chaffin Tower Services based in Oklahoma.
Sheriff Kochanowski tells KSAL News that the crew is building a cell phone communications tower for Nextel Wireless at that site.
Deputies say sometime between 5:20pm on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning at 7:52am, someone removed numerous drills, saws, wrenches and ratchets.
Two transit levels and two transit measure sticks were also stolen as well as numerous galvanized bolts.
Total loss and damage is listed at $11,700.

Chief Hill is the big city problem but the re-elected over the hill sheriff is the county problem, While Hill can be fired the sheriff would have to be recalled. I cannot believe that the city of salina and saline county could have two of the totally worst heads of both departments. Both of these guys should have retired years ago so compentant people who want to fight crime were in these positions. Hill is more concerned about seatbelt check points than he is with the crime wave. Kochanowski is more concerned with the money he is being paid or he would not have run for re-election as he ignors what's going on and has his arrested deputies sitting doing radar. Its sad when the people living in the county need to take up arms to protect their property because the sheriff's department would rather sit on the side of a road catching speeders instead of making a presence in patroling the county.

Since Nextel doesn't exist anymore, looks like the Sheriff couldn't even get accurate facts.

Time to bring back the "junk yard dogs". When i was growing up the junk yard had 4 dobermans that would patrol and guard the place at night. You didnt dare get caught on the wrong side of the fence for fear of getting your face eaten off. Just put a few large, mean dogs inside the trailer at night to guard it, set up a camera outside to catch the following mahem and then post it on youtube! A few cases of being mauled might make the theives think twice.

What do you expect from the old geezer? He gets lost just going to work everyday. I wonder if he got his puzzle put together yet from the brawl labor day at brookville? Evidently he never caught anyone but the one person who turned himself in. Just another failure in his law enforcement career.

Nextel DOES still exist until June 2013, then it will be merged into Sprint. Alltel no longer exists. Thus, the Sherrif IS correct about this point/

Nextel ceased to exist when Sprint bought them in 2005. Sprint is still operating part of the iDen network, for now, but I can guarantee you they aren't putting new iDen sites in. The Sheriff obviously meant to say Nex-Tech Wireless, not Nextel.

The "junkyard dog" is a great idea, however, since the city put the "vicious dog ordinance" in place, that could be a bit of a challenge for the businesses, also, many insurance companies have put vicious dog clauses in their policies. I remember many years ago, someone that broke into Fuller's Auto Salvage was tore up pretty good by the guard dog there, LOL, only thing that idiot got away with was some stitches!!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Mr. Fuller had a "guard cat" that sat on the counter, LOL, you sure did not want to stick your hand out and pet it, you would pull back a shredded up stub!! :)

Really I pet it every time I went in without a problem. I take that back the very first time the cat hissed at me from that point on we got along.

Getumgranny, are you saying that if someone broke into my home and my dog ate them, my dog would be considered vicious? She's just doing her job of protecting my home, INSIDE my home. Now if she were loose and attacked someone i could understand the vicious dog thing, but to break into a trailer or home where the dog is contained? Would be better than me shooting the bast...son of a gun, wouldn't it? Either way, someone gets in my house that isnt invited, they will get shredded or leaded!
