This is for all of you who like to rag on KHP about seatbelt usage and the reporting of it. Troopers are simply filling out accident forms that are required by KDOT for all reportable accidents either of atleast 1,000$ damage, injury, or a fatality. One of the boxes required is seatbelt usage. If it is an injury or fatality accident, all of the information is then submitted for public and media viewing online. "The Media" are then the parties responsible for reporting seatbelt usage and letting the public know. If your tired of reading about it, ask KSAL why they continuously report seatbelt usage and why they continue to chose to only list that information from the website. And in case your wondering, the website is as follows......https://www.accesskansas.org/ssrv-khp-crashlogs/index. Far as I see it, KHP is only doing what KDOT requires of them, it is the media who is reporting seatbelt usage.

Well-said, ifyousayso. As for the first comment, I think I speak for most of the readers here who get tired of your comments implying seatbelts don't save lives. Sure, it's not a guarantee, but it's been proven that seatbelt use does save lives overall, it's common sense, and it's also the law. If you choose not to use one, go ahead, but quit ragging on the rest of us who know what we're talking about.

Here is "my" take on seatbelts. It is Kansas law (K.S.A. 08-2503) that we are required to wear seatbelts and can be stopped simply for not wearing one. I know people complain about it and some believe that they do not matter, yeah yeah, I know. But lets all remember that driving is a privilege and not a right. And with a privilege usually comes a rule or law. If you do not like to get stopped and have your time taken up and have to pay the court 10$, wear the thing. If you dont mind being stopped and ordered to pay 10$, then dont wear the thing. Honestly, dont really matter to me, but just stop griping about the people who do and do not wear them and the people who report about the people who do and do not wear them. Everyone has a job, the media has a job to report it. KHP has a job to report it. BIG DEAL!

This is directed at all the "smarta$$e$" who like to take shots at the seatbelt laws or feel they need to display their intellegence by commenting on their knowledge of seat belt statistics. You can take this with a grain of salt......As a retired firefighter and member of several differrent rescue squads, all I can say is this. Will wearing a seatbelt gaurentee you survive an accident....NO. I have been at rescue scenes where the occupants wouldnt have survived if they would have been wearing a racing harness and helmet. That is just the nature of some of the tragic accidents i have worked. But i will tell you this, I have seen far, far, far more fatalities laying in a field, ditch or halfway through the windshield after an accident than I ever have sitting in the seats, restrained by the seatbelt. So, all i have to say about all you anti-seatbelt people.......Roll the dice and take your chances. :)
