Inmate Charged with Smuggling Drugs

Dave Foor - Wed 12:26 PM 01/02/2013

An inmate at the Saline County Jail has been charged with smuggling Xanax pills into the jail and giving them to other female inmates.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowsi says a deputy noticed several inmates acting strangely Saturday morning and upon investigation it was determined they had taken the pills.

51-year-old Vanessa Mitcheam, of Salina, is charged with bringing the pills into the jail when she was booked on a DUI charge December 26th.

The Sheriff's Office says some of the pills were recovered.

This is the second female to smuggle drugs into jail in the past 3 months that has been reported. Maybe if the sheriff paid more attention to his staff not performing complete searches of the female prisoners instead of trying to hood wink the taxpayers of Saline county with his under handed way in getting his grant passed for seatbelt road blocks we would all be alot better. Remember this is the same sheriff that would not terminate an arrested deputy that he uses as a resource person in the school system. Even when the guy was charged with abusing a child now how much sense does that make?

Obviously you are not familiar with the policies of what and where you can search an inmate legally. The problem is not with the Sheriffs office but with current State and federal laws that dictate the manner in which searches are performed. It is evident law is not your strong point, perhaps it is time to crawl back onto the turnip truck. If the inmates rights are violated and reported then you would be complaining about that, Sheriff K. does a great job considering the liberal climate of our court systems.

Liston victory2012, redneckwatch and whatever else you call yourself you are up to your old tactics. You evidently do not know the law as well as you pretend to. Do you think if you go to prison they don't check every orfice of your body? Sure they do. This sheriff is the worst Saline County has ever had and needs to be recalled. He cannot even keep a jail free of drugs let alone get crime out of the county. I see you had no comment on the rest of the story they commented on so you probably believe that deputies that are arrested should stay on the force. Any arrest for law enforcement to writing a bad check to striking a kid should result in automatic firing. By the way it seems the deputies on the 3rd floor at the courthouse take searching to the extreme also plus us taxpayers are paying their salaries to hang out and surf the web.

Aurora, I took the time to look up 'STRIP SEARCH' and compare it to 'BODY CAVITY SEARCH' as it appears to apply in cases such as this. I would suggest you do the same. If you were in charge, the people of Saline County would be paying out some BIG $$$ to those inmates involved for the guidance you provided.

Smokeyvalley alias iamnotgonnagetu you can use one id here. The sheriff is incapable of running the jail and needs recalled. Smuggling drugs into jail is but one fault. Letting arrested deputies retain their jobs after being arrested is another. You want to talk big bucks tell me wise one how much money is paid in salary to 5 deputies sitting on the 3rd floor everyday? And for what reason? Possibly a corrupt court system that has judges afraid. Sorry but if someone wants to cause harm they will get it done off the 3rd floor. Waste of money has been this sheriff's cup of tea. His recent running to the old commissioners to get his grant is proof enought how he runs things under the table. Of course he was like this when he was a cop also so nothing has changed except time.

Have you all noticed how Imnot/victory2012 always praises the police. Have you wondered why? He is blowing smoke since he has been in the drug trade for years now I not sure but think he has been busted a couple of times. Some say he is an informer. Here probably is another reason for all of his ID'S on here.

The Saline County Sheriffs Department does a great job considering it is a job that is constantly being criticized by WANNABEES who could not pass the written exam much less the psychological test. All of the critics watch Law & Order or CSI and suddenly they have all of the answers to solve societies problems. All critics should volunteer to work at the corrections department or ask to ride along with a deputy and they would see first hand the fine job they do and the dirtbags they have to deal with.

Copy cat imnot I find it interesting you skip over commenting on the arrested deputy. You can kiss the sheriffs old butt all you want but the fact remains he is involved in to many under tbe table transactions. Just because someone brings up how bad of a job he has done and is currently doing does not mean tbey want his job. There are a bunch of good people out there that could do the job better than this has been has done.

The topic of this article is a person getting drugs into the jail. Keep on track. Did you take a look at what can and can not be done in regards to searching? There is a lot out there. You do what others suggest and it sounds like a rape charge. Keep on track. Yes, the sun will come up in the morning. But no need to bring it up here.

Wrong smokey. A female police officer can conduct the search. There are other things that they do that violates a persons rights.
