Three families whose young children broke bones while playing on a Hutchinson elementary school's monkey bars have sued the school district for negligence.
The Hutchinson News reports two of the families have settled their cases, with the district's liability insurer agreeing to pay a total of $3,000 to each. A third lawsuit was filed on Thursday.
Children in all three families suffered either a broken wrist or arm while playing on the equipment at Faris Elementary School. The mother of one of the children says the monkey bars, which had been new, had problems because there were no ladder steps.
The equipment has been removed. The district denies liability and says it entered into the settlements to avoid costly litigation.

What has our world come to? Why stop with sueing the school district? What about the manufacturer of the monkey bars? The company that supplied the iron to make the monkeybars, the mining company that provided the ore to make the iron for the monkeybars. Hey i'm sure they needed equipment to mine the ore, why not sue them too?

this can all be blamed on the scumbag lawyers that promote easy money from accidents and injuries maybe the school should counter sue the parents for having children , I'm sure the parents were broke looking for a payday also

I agree heartily with both of you. It's not the school district's fault those kids are clumsy.

Time for Nancy Pelosi to call for a ban on playground equipment, this wanton violence perpetrated on the children of this nation on the sacred ground of a playground must stop. AR-15 firearms and violent assault playground equipment is a threat to the security of this nation.

Every one is just so sue happy anymore, it doesn't matter what it is as long as they believe they can get some money the easy way. Kids get hurt, that's what playing outside does--let's just lock all our kids up in their rooms so they can sit and watch tv and play video games all day. This keeps up and the schools won't even be allowed to have recess anymore. I broke my leg playing in a kids soccer league when I was young, my parents didn't sue the coaches, the team or the school where it was held........I can't believe what this world (mainly our country) is coming to. I shake my head.

Aslong as the gap between the rich and the poor grows you will continue to see this. We no longer have a middle income. Those on the bottom will continue to go after anyone they deam has deep pockets.
