Kansas Group Will Seek to Broaden Liquor Sales

Associated Press - Fri 10:18 AM 01/04/2013

A group that wants Kansans to be able to buy liquor at grocery stores and convenience stores says it will try again to persuade state lawmakers to change state law.

Currently, Kansans can buy most liquor only in retail liquor stores, except for 3.2 beer and wine coolers.

Uncork Kansas, a coalition of convenience stores, grocery stores, and chambers of commerce, says it plans to introduce a bill to change state law as early in the upcoming legislative session as possible.

The Wichita Eagle reports the Kansas Chamber of Commerce announced earlier this week that it will support the effort.

But Spencer Duncan, executive director of a group called Keep Kansans in Business, said changing the law would hurt existing stores, especially in rural Kansas.

Kansas Chamber of Commerce barks about protecting small business but always support their large wealthy benefactors. Protecting small business is a Chamber and G0P talking point.

I'm not sure if I'm in favor of or against this one, but I'd be wary of anything the Kansas Chamber of Commerce promotes!!

Just ask Boehner, he probably already has stock. This is an outright gluttenous attack on small business.

Any business that needs a protected market to survive has no business being in business. Compete and win. Or don't. Up to you. Oh no, walmart will put us all out of business! We all know there are no tobacco shops, clothing stores, auto repair shops, outdoor stores, grocery stores, appliance stores, furniture stores or lawn & garden stores. Oh, and they already sell booze, it's just the weaker version. Still in business? Yep.
