Snake Ring, Other Jewelry Stolen
Jeff Garretson - Wed 11:43 AM 01/09/2013
Jewelry and medications are stolen from a Saline County home.
According to Sheriff Glen Kochanowski, 68-year old Robert Selders of Smolan, contacted the Sheriff's Office after searching his home for a number of missing items.
Selders told deputies that sometime between December 2nd and January 8th, someone removed jewelry and pain meds from his house.
One of the missing items valued at $500, is described as a silver, snake ring with seven diamonds. Two rubies are set to make the snake's eyes.
Deputies are interviewing a list of people who may have visited the house.
Total loss is listed at $3,660.

Sounds good to say deputies are interviewing a list of people. Labor day a brawl out by Brookville they said the same thing but with arrests pending. When are the lies going to stop coming out of the sheriff's office. They did not arrest anyone but the guy that turned himself in the last time on labor day and they will not find anything out this time. Investigation is not one thing the sheriff's office does well. They blow alot of smoke but never arrest anyone unless they trip over them. This guy better kiss his stuff goodbye and turn it into insurance. Funny he did not miss his pain medication for a month.

Making an immediate arrest is not always helpful to the overall prosecution of a case. Other than satisfying "Monday morning quarterbacks" who have no clue what it really takes to see a case through from arrest to successful prosecution. Also, most the time when someone turns themselves in, it's a sign of a successful and thorough investigation. Law Enforcement has placed a lot of heat on a subject's family or friends, therefore leaving them no other place to go, other than to jail....

Maybe it is pain meds he doesn't take all the time. I don't know the whole story. But I know I have pain meds that sometimes sit for more than a month before I need one. And I don't inventory my jewelry weekly. But you won't find any diamonds in my jewelry.

Perhaps pain meds from and old injury/illness he was keeping until he knew for sure he no longer needed them. I have done this with my past illnesses, much easier to have them on hand then to wait for a Doctor to order them for you. I too do not keep expensive jewelery, hell, can't afford it!! But what few items I do have I keep locked up in a safe place, I am also guilty of not checking on my items on a daily basis. I suspect he will discover it was a family member/friend, someone with knowledge as to what was in his house.

Iwasthereonce tell your bs to all the families in Saline County that had a loved one murdered years ago the this sheriff and his department never solved or arrested anyone. Sounds like you were a part of this group at one time that takes pride in writing tickets instead of solving crimes.

Iwasthereonce why are you not there now? Law enforcement in this city and county is non-existant. When cases are not solved for years there are problems. You say people turn themselves in because of your investigations which may be true for the stupid ones that believe the hype you guys put out. Drilling someone for hours on end to get them to admit to something is worst than water boarding some terrorist. I bet I can question you for hours in a cubicle and have you admit to anything I want you to. That is not solving cases.

Aurora - the answer is No... You could grill me for hours if you wanted to, but this isn't tv, I wouldn't admit to something I didn't do. Iamgonnagetyou - there are alot of "unsolved" cases in every city, and most the time the Police know who did it. Yet even murderers and rapists have the same civil rights as you and I, and they hide behind those rights. Makes no sense to arrest on little or some evidence, just to have a halfway decent defense attorney get it dismissed and ruin the case forever.

So you rather do nothing and leave some free to kill again or rob again. That makes a hell of alot of sense. Also you say to the other person you can't be broke down thats a lie and you know it.

Iamgonnagetyou, no I would not rather do nothing....but that's not my call nor Law Enforcements, that's the Constitution of the United States, and rules of criminal procedure. Again, no, I could not be pressed to give a false confession, I understand it happens on rare occasions, however, confessions alone don't always convict, evidence will still need to be supported.
