Police Issue 15 Citations for No Seat Belts
Jeff Garretson - Wed 12:35 PM 01/16/2013
Salina Police issued multiple citations on Tuesday night for seat belt violations.
Lt. Russ Lamer tells KSAL News that four officers and one spotter focused on occupants who were not buckled up in vehicles moving through two areas of town; at Ohio and Crawford and 9th and Crawford.
Police issued 14 citations to adults - and one for a child who was not restrained.
Lt. Lamer says that citations for unrestrained adults are $10 while the citation for children under 18-years old who are not buckled up is $60 plus court costs of $55.

Lamer is actually bragging about this? Why is he not patrolling the crime areas. Then his superiors would not be asking for our help. Catch criminals are seatbelt violators.

Maybe if the people who get these tickets would file file lawsuits against the city and county for violating their freedom of rights the state would be forced to repeal this law. The government has no right to choose if I want to use a seat belt or not. Another point there is so much going on about gun control but our children that are transported in school buses do not have individual seatbelts. If everyone cares about our children then why is nothing being done to protect them on school buses where accidents do happen?

Running seatbelt and DUI check lanes are demonstrations of Salina PD fulfilling its potential. With the proper leadership Salina PD might be capable of more.

I spoke to a K9 officer, that night who told me he didn't even know it was happening until it had ended, and that he did not believe in the cause. He also told me that local lawmakers and state officials had apparently given Grants to The SPD to specifically carryout these checkpoints. I personally see it as an easy way to reach a quota and to satisfy those in power who we continually elect...solutions anyone?

So while they were doing this someone was breaking into the dentist office a few blocks away. What is wrong with our commissioners who are ignoring all of this as well as the city manager. Then we got this Chief of police who is in hiding and does not have the guts to broach the subject with the people he is being paid to protect.
