Tell you one thing I am getting tired of this Bonilla-Baker constantly running for city or county commission. Very few vote for her you would think she would take the hint. Then we have Kaye Crawford running for re-election and how stupid is she? She spent 500K of our taxpayer money on the art out south, she was in favor of the gay ordiance which cost us more money to have to vote out and now she sits on her hands with the crime spree going on just ignoring it. Why are these two wasting our time and intelligence?

Boy did you ever hit the nail on the head. To the others running, us taxpayers do not want a bunch of BULL. Tell us what you really want to do and then stick by it after elected if you are elected.

Alright, I can understand criticism being given where it is due, but is public art really something that deserves such hostility? I recently hosted some friends from out of town and they thought the public art around town (South Ninth Street, Ohio Street overpass, and municipal waterworks, among others) was quite nice looking (if unusual) and a positive for the city.

Kaye Crawford was not elected until 2011. City commissioners voted in 2010 to spend $246,547 for the sculpture. Facts can be important. The commissioners listed on the city web site for the election before 2011 does not include Kaye Crawford. http://www.salina-ks.gov/content/14532/122/1485/12487.aspx

YOU BETTER FIND NEW FRIENDS AND REPORT THOSE YOU HAVE TO A DR. WHO CAN CHECK TO SEE IF THEY HAVE A MENTAL DISORDER. THE SCRAPE IRON THAT KAYE CRAWFORD APPROVED THAT COST ALL OF US TAXPAYERS MONEY IS A SHAM. SHE INSULTED ALL OF US WITH SOME ART SAVORY WITH THIS VULGAR JUNK WHILE SPENDING CLOSE TO 500K. THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGHT TO SHOW HER THE DOOR. eVIDENTLY SHE IS AFTER THE RETIREMENT BENEFIT FOR SERVING AS A COMMISSIONER BECAUSE AFTER WHAT SHE PULLED DURING HER TERM THERE WOULD BE NO OTHER EARTHLY EXPLANATION.

DUDE, THERE'S NO NEED TO YELL! Seriously . . . . quit taking this so seriously. While you're at it, check out your facts before you spout off. Mr. Blackwell mentioned above isn't a lawyer, Ms. Crawford wasn't a commissioner when the sculpture was approved, and it didn't cost $500,000 (only $300,000).

The enforcer is obviously brain dead. Blackwell isn't an attorney. At least not james Blackwell. And Crawford did not spend your money on any art. Get your facts straight or get off.

Just so all candidates are aware: NO for the river walk, NO for the expo center, NO for any additional art, NO for a study on the feasability of researching the possibility of potentially talking about the river walk over coffee, NO for spending any of our tax dollars on ANY of this. Clear? Any part of that you didn't understand? KsOstm, glad your friends enjoyed the art they were not forced to pay for. Did they happen to say anything about the lousy condition of our streets?

Would love to if I had time. Everyone's story I'm sure. Spend money where it will give the most return. Nice streets, nice parks, crack down on the ever present noise polution (huge problem for Salina), no more art project, demoslish the gang problem. I know, the commision doesn't handle some of these items. It's a team effort. If the police are wasting time handing out seat belt tickets while some punk cruises by thumping the entire neighborhood the game is lost.

Put a roof over the water park and have it open year round. Huge money maker! Get some decent acts in the Bi center. Revamp the river festival, especially in the area of total disclosure as to what the thing actually costs and what it makes! Work WITH the county commision for once. Just once, work WITH them for crying out loud!

Troy: They didn't comment on Salina's roads, but they did say that Kansas has much better roads in general than their home state. Also, personally I'll admit I like the art as well; it adds character to the city. I can understand people griping about the taxpayers paying for the art, but seriously, $300,000 is only a little over $6 per capita. I'm happy to fork over the $6 to bring character to the city and make it look good to outsiders (and those who live here and appreciate the art).

What is said a out kaye and the art is partly true. Once again her supporters do not tell all of the truth. She had a chance to cancel the buying of this art or junk out south. She choose not to and voted to buy it then to put several more thousands in a base to put it on. Plus she was a supporter of the gay ordinance. Thats enought reason she needs to go.

Imagonnagetyou. The art was already purchased on previous commission. It was signed, sealed and delivered. There was no returning it. Maybe you should attend a meeting or watch one on tv. Or you can watch access on your computer of the meetings. I stay well informed by watching the meetings. the agenda is also available on the cities website. Again do some research. It's obvious they didnt have a choice but to purchase the base. You may thank Angel, Peck, Vanier, Larson and jennings for that tree.

He or she is right the artist defaulted and the commissioners could have gotten out of buying it. sking do not make comments unless you know the facts. But Kaye choose to vote to continue with the purchase and now we are stuck with this scrap iron until someone steals it to make some money.

Kaye's does not want to serve the people she has been on the opposite side of what the taxpayers of the city want and like others have said she refuses to make an issue of the police chief's lack of doing anything or even going before the taxpayers and giving them a plan of what he wants to do. Does Kaye make a point of calling him in and putting some pressure on him?? No she doesn't and again as mentioned before all she is interested in is getting her retirement for serving on the commission but she needs another term to do so. I liken her to that old guy Fowler who was on the county commission and wanted the same retirement but the voters sent him on his way and I bid Kaye goodbye also.

I can give you insight briefly. Those in these type of positions qualify for KPERS in just a very few years. Compared to others employed and have KPERS but to receive the same benefits have to work many many years to receive the same benefits. You can go to the Kansas site and research it.

grnthums probably you don't even vote so your comment falls on deaf ears. The artist if that is what you want to call her defaulted on the agreement it was on here as well as in the paper but the current city commission deceided to waste our money on this piece of scrap iron. This is worst than the art out in front of the police station and that was the worst ever seen.

I like to know what agenda the Bonilla-Baker gal has for running to get on a commission. The people do not want her on any commission but she just cannot seem to get the message. If she can't get that message why would anyone think she should be elected to handle city matters?

All this talk about Kaye Crawford being or not being on the commission for the art. Well how about her vote on the 8 million plus for the bi-center. How about her vote to close Greely Street and not fix the bridge. And lastly how about her views on the river issue that was voted down as well as the gay ordinace she supported and we had to vote out. She has quite a record of doing what the taxpayers do not want and has her and her friends agenda's more in mine then those of the community.

Again research people. City commisssion does not get any retirement benefits. It is part time employement. Call human resources and find out yourself. Crawford voted NO on bi center. It was a 3/2 vote. Looks like the two democrats voted down the 8.7 million deal. All public record. Your hate for Kaye stems from her support of lgbt. So your hate runs so deep on the issue you disagree with, you decide to instead come on here and make false statements that are easily found by watching footage or reading agenda minutes. But that would be too much work. It is much easier to go online and flat out LIE about someone, because you disagree. Coward.

sking it seems you took apart all their statements but a few. The art south of town that she could have voted against once the artist defaulted. That information is public record. Or how about her voting to close Greely Street and not fix the bridge or about voting for Smoking Hill to do the work on Magnolia closing that much traveled road for 6 months. We taxpayers gave Kaye a chance and she dropped the ball. She needs to go down the road we want people who care about their fellow citizens of Salina and Kaye fails here also.
