North Salina Rallies for New Store
Jeff Garretson - Wed 11:55 AM 01/23/2013
A group hoping to bring a grocery store to North Salina hosted a rally Wednesday evening.
Jon Blanchard with "Salinans for East Iron Grocery Store" stopped into the KSAL Morning News to talk about the event. "We want people to join us and show a potential grocery store operator they can make it work," he said. "My thinking is if I shop four times a month, I'm doing one of those shopping trips at that store."
Blanchard's message to a new grocery store owner is simple, "I know that you're an underdog - and I'm for the underdog." A petition pledge rally was held Wednesday evening at 5:30, at the parking lot of the former Dillons grocery store at 511 E. Iron.
The petition drive will be conducted for two weeks, ending Feb 6th, and asks signers to help circulate petitions of support and pledge to patronize the store when shopping in the area.

North Salina has been without a grocery store since the Dillons store on E. Iron closed back in October, and staff transferred to a new store at the corner of Ohio and Cloud Streets.
