KSAL's Ken Jennison is ready to celebrate Kansas Day at the Smoky Hill Museum by sharing a lifetime of treasures.

Back in 1935, a shiny object on the ground interrupted a 6-year-old boy's plan to go fishing. "I looked down and saw sometihing sparkle like a little rock," Jennison said with a smile.

"I picked it up and it was this litte Indian arrowhead, and that was the beginning of my hobby."

The artifact now rests in a collection of over 400 arrowheads, spearheads and Native American tools Jennison has found.

Saturday, Jennison will be telling boys and girls of all ages about his passion for touching part of Kansas' past at the Smoky Hill Museum's free Kansas Day Celebration.

The musem will have a chance for children to touch the past too, and learn about pioneer life with activites that include butter churning and shelling corn.

Deborah Divine will also be on hand, demonstrating quilting techniques. Deborah is a member of the Silver Needles Quilt Guild, the Appliqué Society, American Quilters Society, American Quilt Study Group and Studio Art Quilts Associates.

Visitors can sign up for door prizes, enjoy some make and take crafts, and eat some birthday cake.

The free Kansas Day open house is Saturday, Janury 26th, from 1pm to 3pm at the Smoky Hill Museum, 211 W. Iron Avenue.
