A Kansas state senator has proposed a medical marijuana bill.

Sen. David Haley, a Democrat from Kansas City, Kan., has introduced the bill, which would allow Kansas to join 18 states and the District of Columbia in allowing people to use marijuana with a doctor's order.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the measure would allow patients to have up to six ounces of marijuana and grow up to a dozen plants at home.

Sen. Mary Pilcher-Cook, chairwoman of the Senate Health and Welfare Committee, says the measure won't get a hearing during the current legislative session.

Currently in Kansas, illegally obtaining marijuana for a health condition can mean a year in jail, and growing your own pot can mean up to 17 years in prison.

Come on KS. It is the right thing to do. There is medical uses despite what big government say about it, and I think that is proven beings how the same government has and owns the only patent on it that was given out. It could create much needed jobs and bring in much needed revenues to the state of KS and we should also make hemp able to grow so we could use that as a cheep bio-fuel that would cost about .50 cents a gallon. Henry Ford first use a hemp fuel to power his car and used it to make the body of the car that was stronger than steal so that means no more little fender benders. It could save the world if we let it.

Definately not the thing to do. It is abused in the states that have passed it. If physicians believe people need this drug for treatment then it should be under the strictist of supervision in a licensed facility.

Why go half way? Just legalize it. Cut out all the red tape and save the tax payers some money.

@ Aurora why would you ask that these restrictions be so harsh on a plant that has NEVER killed any one. But look what's going on with the pain pills that are and have been popular like the Vicidon, morphine, and oxycontin. Not to mention the abuse that is done with them I feel you are taking a VERY noncompassionate view of folks that are in severe pains.
