The Senate committee on utilities is considering extending the 15 percent mandate to 2018 and the 20 percent requirement to 2024. And it would allow delaying any requirements if utilities can show good cause, such as increased costs to customers.

The committee heard from supporters and opponents on Tuesday and last week and plans to hear more testimony next week.

Power companies will claim any progression towards increasing requirements will increase cost. Power companies will continue to increase cost regardless of progressive requirements. The only way changing requirements to possibly extend the time period will benefit citizens is if the government can require power companies to stop the price hikes. So who will these proposed changes benefit? Power companies, or citizens? Citizens better get their writing pens out, and get to work.
