TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A state senator wants the University of Kansas and Kansas State men's basketball teams to play Wichita State each year before the three schools begin conference play.

Republican Sen. Michael O'Donnell, of Wichita, introduced legislation Tuesday requiring the two Big 12 schools to do just that starting in 2014.

Wichita State plays in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers last met Kansas in 1993, losing to the Jayhawks 103-43.

Kansas State and Wichita State last played in 2003. The Wildcats won that game 54-50 in Manhattan.

O'Donnell's bill would let the schools decide where the mandatory nonconference games would be played.

Micheal O'Donnell's political campaign touted how he wants to cut wasteful spending; Now we see he wants to waste time by attempting to introduce legislation for something like this? I hope people are contacting Micheal O'Donnell to remind him why he is in the position he is in. This type of work surely isn't it.

So many states trying to pass laws to kick the Feds out of meddling in states rights. No, our Government hasn't taken power grabs over the states?

Are you kidding??? Our Kansas senators have this state running so smoothly that our biggest concern right now is to pass legislation to force Kansas colleges to play each other in sports. WOW!! What great leaders we have!!!

What a complete waste of time Mr O'Donnell. Are you kidding me with this? You will be remembered for wasting time while there are so many meaningful things that NEED to be taken care of.

So Wichita State wants to get their butts kicked 2 times every season. Seems to me that is pretty stupid. Even the best Wicita State team will not beat Kansas or K-State unless both of those programs hit rock bottom which is unlikely to occur. Maybe this state senator needs to be sent back home and someone else elected.

I guess since Mr O' Donnell is a Kansas senator he is allowed to mettle with college sports programs, especailly regarding state funded colleges. However, there has to be better ways to spend his time rather than trying to find schools that will play WSU? Our taxes are out of control, fuel is outrageous, don't get me started on health care......
