41-year-old Shawn Lee Smith faces federal charges that include possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of Cottonwood Elementary School in Salina.

A Salina man accused of selling methamphetamine near a school is facing federal charges.

According to U.S Attorney Barry Grissom's Office, 41-year-old Shawn Lee Smith is charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of Cottonwood Elementary School in Salina, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

The crimes are alleged to have occurred Dec. 3, 2012, in Salina.

If convicted, Smith faces a penalty of not less than one year and not more than 40 years and a fine up to $2 million on the drug charge; a penalty of not less than five years and not more than life and a fine up to $250,000 on the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking; and a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000 on the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

Pot, legalize it, tax it, sell it. The war on drugs is a big farce dudes. Notice the emphasis on the word farce, and dudes also if you pronounce the word like a Californian or Coloradoan.

The war on drugs is being done completely wrong. Anyone caught in possession or using should get the death penalty and put to death within 3 days of being found guilty. Then lets see how important pot and meth are.

Send him back to prison and make sure he stays there this time. How many strikes will he get before our local court system figures out that he is a lost cause.
