Saline County Conceal and Carry Requests Up
Jeff Garretson - Wed 12:32 PM 02/06/2013
According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office, 17 applicants were fingerprinted on Tuesday as part of the license process.
The Saline County Sheriff's Office is processing concealed carry applications for gun owners at a record pace.
Marilyn Marshall, a records specialist with the Sheriff's Office, tells KSAL News they have already screened 67 applicants in the first month of 2013.
Her office took care of 335 requests for Saline County in all of 2012.
The trend is on the rise across the state.
Attorney General Derek Schmidt's office said Friday - that 3,167 Kansans applied for the permits in January.
That more than doubles the previous record of 1,651 set last March.
Pat Campbell, who fingerprints Saline County applicants admits she's been busy, "I don't think it's going to slow down," she said.
Campbell finger printed 17 people on Tuesday as part of the process.
Marshall, explains the path to obtaining the permit begins with a instruction from a current or former law enforcement officer in a classroom setting for 8-hours.
A nation wide background check is performed by the FBI before applicants receive their permit, which is then valid for 4 years.
The rush for concealed carry permits has made for a backlog of work on a national scale.
"Right now the waiting period is 90-days, plus - just to get your paperwork back," Marshall said.

When law enforcement is unable to protect its citizens against crime and would rather give out seatbelt tickets its time for citizens to arm themselves and take care of these individuals who wish to rob, rape and kill.

One should not need a license to exercise their Constitutionally Guaranteed Right to Bear Arms. Yet it is good for Kansans to stand up and be counted as Law-abiding gun owners. To those who wish to ban firearms... you go first... and then disarm those whom you would expect to protect YOU... then I might think of giving up MY protection... okay, I'm done... I don't need to think about it anymore.

Living out in the country one has to be armed. The only time we ever see a sheriff department truck is if we drive to Salina and we finda them running radar a mile or so from town or we see them driving up and down Ohio Street. We called the department one time a year ago when we came upon an accident and were told it would be 45 minutes or longer before someone could respond. That is ridiculous but when half of your department are on the 3rd floor of the city county building protecting the judges the heck with the rest of the people they are to protect anda serve. I feelif the judges want to be protected they should hire their own security company and let the sheriff personnel do what they are supposed to be doing.

Oh someone else has run into this also. I reported a guy on my property walking around and got the same answer from their dispatch. Finally I approached the guy with my shoot gun and he left pretty darn quick.
