TV, Computers Damaged at Juvenile Detention Center
KSAL News Staff - Mon 01:14 PM 02/11/2013
A teen is facing additional charges after damage is done inside the Saline County Juvenile Detention Facility.
According to Sheriff Glen Kochanowski, a disturbance inside a cell escalated on Friday night.
A deputy removed 14-year old Micah Lorenzano from his cell after an argument with his cell-mate grew out of control.
Sheriff Kochanowski tells KSAL News that other inmates began yelling and chanting at the teen. The male flipped over a washer and dryer before he was moved to a TV room.
Once there he continued to damage property before deputies could bring him under control. Sheriff Kochanowski says a TV was pulled off the wall, while 6 Dell computer towers and 8, 17-inch computer monitors were smashed with a broomstick. Lorenzano is facing multiple charges including criminal damage to property and battery of a detention officer.
Total damage is listed at $5,747.
The Sheriff's Office also charged a teen with aggravated battery on Saturday.
Deputies say a 17-year old inmate from Brookville, was taken to the Salina Regional Health Center and released to his family for care after suffering head injuries during an alleged attack that took place around 11:30am Saturday morning.
Deputies arrested 16-year old Justin Howard of Salina and are looking at transferring him to a an adult facility.
The Sheriff's Office reports Howard was arrested in November of 2012 on a charge of a aggravated battery that stemmed from a stabbing.

Since they are in jail, let them sit there without tv and computers. Don't waste the money in replacing them.

Why do they have access to all those computers. WHAT IS THE SHERIFF THINKING OF???????? If you are in jail you should not have access to any computers. I wonder how many they have over at the adult jail? Taxpayers can you see why we need a new sheriff?

Well t--bone to answer your question the computers are there so the kids can do their school work, the adult jail also has computers so the inmates can work on getting a high school diploma

I usually do not agree with tbone but in this case we are not running a motel. To bad to the adult prisoners they had a shot at getting their diploma's and choose not to over a life of crime. There isn't a juvinile in custody that gives a darn about school. It's time that the jail is run like a jail not a motel.

You hit the nail on the head with your statement. The sheriff is running a vacation spa downtown. Three meals a day, snacks, tv and computers what a life we give them with our taxpayer monies.

Aurora. and Iamgonnagetyou, inmates have higher chance of not returning back to jail if they got diplomas and got a job. Good thing, you people are not running for office or running a jail.
