Volunteers Preparing To Polar Plunge
KSAL Staff - Thu 08:52 PM 02/14/2013
A group of hearty volunteers are prepared to brave the Kansas winter and take a Polar Plunge. They will strip down and plunge into the frigid lake at the Webster Conference Center as part of the Polar Plunge and 5K Strut.
Organizers say that the Polar Plunge & Strut is an extreme event for extreme people willing to help out an extremely good cause. All proceeds will benefit the Kansas Special Olympics.
The event in Salina is this Saturday at the Webster Conference Center.
Registration begins at 7:30 Saturday morning.
A 5k cross country run, 5k road run, and a 1 mile walk all begin at 9:30.
The Polar Plunge begins at 11:30. Participants are encouraged to dress in costume and will be judged.
Early packet pickup will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Saline County Sheriff's Office.
The Saline Blue Thunder organization will be selling food and snacks.
The public is invited to attend.
KSAL News Director Todd Pittenger has agreed to the take the plunge this year, and is collecting donations. Donations can me made at the Salina Media Group studios at the Townsite Building in Downtown Salina.

Yea aurora, and the police chief won't even get up out of his chair or stay awake long enough to take the plunge.

What's up with staff. I read that post and all that was pointed out that when you do this like the big boys back east you only wear a bathing suit. Why don't you post rules and regulations so all of us know what and what not can be said instead of making up rules as you as you go along.

You know I read that post also and saw no wrong in what was said. Seems to me that many comments by certain people are left alone while others are focused on. If the staff that deleted this ever saw those jumping in the cold ocean they are not fully dressed they wear swimming suits and the picture that is posted here shows people fully dressed which by the way is very dangerous as the weight of wet clothes hinders movement and weights you down. If someone were to have a medical problem with those wet clothes on we can have another sad story on here.

Did you read this story? The reason is very selfish in that KSAL News Director Todd Pittenger has agreed to the take the plunge. So he is being over protective on this story. Sorry whether it's for charity or not freedom of speech still prevails. Had the post been vulgar or obscene I could understand it but from what others are saying that is not the case. Power goes to some peoples heads I guess. Oh well by now it is over with.
