18 County Wrestlers Qualify for State

Four Saline County high schools will be sending wrestlers to next weekend's state tournaments.

Salina South leads the way with seven entries into the Class 5A tournament at Hartman Arena in Park City.

Tyler Irwin captured the lone regional title for the Cougars at 113 pounds. Tyler McGaha and Tanner O'Donnell earned runner-up finishes at 170 and 182 pounds. Josiah Endreshak and Mike Shirk were third at 120 and 195 pounds. Finishing fourth were Randall Bates at 106 and Alex Parker at 220.

Salina Central qualified five wrestlers for the 5A tournament as well.

Dalton Peters and Kade True each won regional titles. Peters won at 145 pounds while True took the crown at 220. Dayton Will was second at 138 pounds. De'Khyale McFarland was third at 113, while Zak Will was fourth at 285.

Southeast of Saline will send five wrestlers to the Class 3-2-1A tournament in Hays.

Jim Weller was the champion at 120 pounds. Finishing third were Cory Knight at 132, Kreal Smith at 152 and Keith Short at 160. Zach Turner was fourth at 126.

Sacred Heart will send one wrestler to Hays, but Nick Wuthnow brings an undefeated mark into the tournament at 170 pounds and is a regional champion.

The tournaments begin on Friday morning. We'll have updates throughout the day beginning in the 9am hour on Friday and Saturday on SportsRadio 1150 KSAL and throughout the day at ksal.com.
