Man Charged With Criminal Sodomy
Jeff Garretson - Fri 10:46 AM 02/15/2013
A rural Salina man is arrested on charges of indecent liberties with a child.
Salina Police were contacted by the parents of a boy under the age of ten - after they learned about an incident that occurred in a central Salina home.
According to Lt. Scott Siemsen, the investigation began on January 28th and culminated with the arrest of 30-year-old Ira D. Rice, 5201 E. North Street, on Thursday.
Police say Rice allegedly touched the boy in an inappropriate manner and showed him indecent content on a computer.
Rice is now facing 1 count of aggravated criminal sodomy, 5 counts of indecent liberties, 2 counts of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child and 1 count of promoting obscenity.
Police say the man was an acquaintance of the family.

You mean the sheriff's de[artment went out in the county to arrest this guy? I bet that was a new experience especially after I saw one of the fancy trucks as they call them, driving around Salina this morning turning on Montrose I guess patrolling the city.

I actually took the time one time to ask a Sheriff deputy why we seem to see so many sheriff cars/trucks driving around town. He asked me, would I rather they be out serving warrants, PFA'S, civil papers (which the serving party has to pay the sheriff dept to serve them). child support orders, divorce papers etc... OR, sitting somewhere in the country, or driving around wasting gas when there is nothing going on to take care of?? And, periodically, they do need to come back to town for gas, lunch break, business at the sheriff office. After he explained it that way, I can understand now seeing them around town sometimes.

Sorry nbut they can take one of those bunch of deputies on the 3rd floor of the city county building and let him serve papers. They only need one person to do that. This is another reason the county has become a haven for criminals.

Granny you probably old enought that you know you would not get an honest comment from the deputy. It does not take 2 or 3 of those 4 wheeler gas guzzlers running around Salina everyday to do this. What's wrong with the city cops doing the delivery also? The sheriff said he needed those 4 wheel drive trucks to patrol out in the county but they rarely go out far enought that they real don't need them. But the sheriff likes to spend our money and after 16 years of him doing so and collecting a big salary for doing nothing its time to for him to move on. What's this guys brother in the jail for?

Yes Granny we are on the same page completely. I guess maybe we need to find out where this warrant serving by only the sheriff office comes from and look into change. Some cities have private firms or individuals who do that kind of work. The sheriff's department does have cars and why they don't use them for this purpose is beyond me. Others have said there should be a mandatory retirement age where law officers and sheriff's had to retire and I am all in favor of that.

c'mon Granny, you just told everyone you weren't 100% sure,.... regardless of how good a "friend" you heard it from, it's nothing but idle gossip. Stop spreading rumor around and trying to disquise it as fact. I realize everyone is capable of having and voicing an opinion, that's fine....just stop it with the gossip already...ok?

Question can the staff prove otherwise? For your information it is a felony crime by statue.
