New Salina Business Breaks Stone
Todd Pittenger - Fri 03:52 PM 02/22/2013
A unique stone-breaking event ushered in a new business in Salina Friday.
As well-wishers looked on Friday morning, employees and family of Bell Memorials chipped away at a large granite stone before Josh Bell finally broke it in half.
Bell Memorials, formerly known as Becker Monument, makes granite memorial stones, granite counter tops, and glass etchings.
Jim Bell, his wife Ruth, and their son Josh own the business.
Jim tells KSAL News that the new Salina location is the company's fourth. Bell Memorials has locations in Beloit, Great Bend, Manahhatan, and now Salina. The company employs about 30 people. He says that they do business with 75 counties in the state.
Bell Memorials is a fifth generation business.
Bell Memorials takes over for Becker Monuments, after the retirement of Delbert Becker.

Always good to hear of local businesses expanding. KSAL, a suggestion, if you don't mind; is there any way you can post their business address? I think a small business can use all the help it can get.

@t--bone: Why are you constantly making negative comments on EVERYTHING? This is great for Salina, especially since everyone is laying people off.
