For the second time in just a couple of days a fire damages an Abilene restaurant. Firefighters were called to the Sonic drive in at around 9:00 Saturday morning. Crews were on the scene about 30 minutes for a grease fire caused by the fryer hood. Store Manager Chris Huff said that the automatic fire system had been recently serviced, but didn't activate. Huff and one other employee were in the store at the time. No one was hurt. Fire official Ronny Rein expects the business to be closed several days. On Wednesday night a massive fire destroyed the historic Kirby House restaurant in Abilene.

Looks to me that hood has not been cleaned in a long time. How do these restaurants get away with filty conditions which endangers all of our health. Health inspectors should close down this restaurant until they clean the whole place up.

#1, thats called soot, the aftermath of fire. #2, They get away with it because a couple years ago, restaurant health inspectors statewide was reduced by 75%. Now, instead of having one person in Saline Co constantly checking restaurants in Salina, one person does the entire North Central Kansas. Restaurant owners are very happy. Instead of never knowing when the Saline County inspector will drop in, now they are very certain, they will not drop in.

I've been in the kitchen of a couple and would agree that more could be done about keeping them clean. I'm more than happy to cook at home, thank you.
