A man escaped custody in Hays early Sunday morning, leading police in a high-speed pursuit all the way to Great Bend, where he finally crashed.

Chief Kenton Doze of the Hoisington Police Department said Matthew Kloke escaped from police custody just after 8 a.m., stole a car and led police in a pursuit that reached speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The pursuit ended when Kloke lost control of the vehicle, crashing in a residential yard near 31st St. and Washington Ave. in Great Bend.

Kloke is now back in police custody.
